Metabolic Engineering of Photorespiration
2017The introduction of two alternative glycolate catabolic pathways in the chloroplasts of Arabidopsis thaliana rendered plants with increased biomass. To introduce these synthetic pathways, the selected genes were stepwise integrated in the nuclear genome of wild-type plants.

Engineering of Secondary Metabolism
Annual Review of Genetics, 2015Secondary (specialized) metabolites, produced by bacteria, fungi, plants, and other organisms, exhibit enormous structural variation, and consequently display a wide range of biological activities. Secondary metabolism improves and modulates the phenotype of the host producer.

Application of Metabolic Flux Analysis in Metabolic Engineering
2011Metabolic flux analysis (MFA) is an important analytical technique to quantify intracellular metabolic fluxes as a consequence of all catalytic and transcriptional interactions. In systems metabolic engineering, MFA has played important role to understand cellular physiology under particular conditions and predict its metabolic capability after genetic

Metabolic Engineering of Secondary Plant Metabolism
2017Metabolic engineering is a modulation of metabolic pathway(s) of the host either to increase the concentration of existing compounds or to produce a novel compound. It began with the engineering of microorganisms, and the concept has been extrapolated to plants opening newer promising perspectives.

Microbial acetyl-CoA metabolism and metabolic engineering
Metabolic Engineering, 2015Recent concerns over the sustainability of petrochemical-based processes for production of desired chemicals have fueled research into alternative modes of production. Metabolic engineering of microbial cell factories such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Escherichia coli offers a sustainable and flexible alternative for the production of various ...

Metabolic engineering of the plant primary–secondary metabolism interface
Current Opinion in Biotechnology, 2011Plants synthesize a myriad of secondary metabolites (SMs) that are derived from central or primary metabolism. While these so-called natural products have been targets for plant metabolic engineering attempts for many years, the immense value of manipulating the interface between committed steps in secondary metabolism pathways and those in primary ...

Bioremediation through microbes: systems biology and metabolic engineering approach
Critical Reviews in Biotechnology, 2018Today, environmental pollution is a serious problem, and bioremediation can play an important role in cleaning contaminated sites. Remediation strategies, such as chemical and physical approaches, are not enough to mitigate pollution problems because of ...
