The respiratory quotient of the excess metabolism of exercise [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series B, Containing Papers of a Biological Character, 1929
In recent years much controversy has been aroused as to whether the body uses carbohydrate alone in order to provide energy for the recovery process from muscular exercise, or whether the other foodstuffs can be used directly for this purpose. One of us (Furusawa), from a study of the respiratory quotient of the excess metabolism, concluded that ...

MICROBIAL METABOLIC ACTIVITY AS LEGACY OF AGRICULTURAL MANAGEMENT IN MAIZE AGROECOSYSTEMS FROM MEXICO HIGHLANDS

open access: yesTropical and Subtropical Agroecosystems, 2022
Background. Soil ecological functions such as C mineralization, enzyme activity, and microbial biomass determine the maintenance of soil fertility in the short and long term.

Vector bundles of rank four and A_3 = D_3

open access: yes, 2012
Over a scheme with 2 invertible, we show that a vector bundle of rank four has a sub or quotient line bundle if and only if the canonical symmetric bilinear form on its exterior square has a lagrangian subspace.

Dinâmica da matéria orgânica e da biomassa microbiana em solo submetido a diferentes sistemas de manejo na Amazônia Ocidental Dynamic of organic matter and microbial biomass in a soil under different management systems in the Western Amazon

Macronutrients as sources of food energy. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
This background paper considers the extent to which the development of new recommendations for dietary energy requirements needs to account for the macronutrient (fat, carbohydrate, protein and alcohol) profiles of different diets.

Efeito do monocultivo de Pinus e da queima do campo nativo em atributos biológicos do solo no Planalto Sul Catarinense Effects of native pasture burning and Pinus monoculture on changes in soil biological attributes on the Southern Plateau of Santa Catarina - Brazil

Atributos biológicos do solo sob influência da cobertura vegetal e do sistema de manejo Soil biological attributes influenced by cover crops and management systems

A second order algebraic knot concordance group [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We define an algebraic group comprising symmetric chain complexes which captures the first two stages of the Cochran-Orr-Teichner solvable filtration of the knot concordance group in a single invariant.

The Metabolism and the Respiratory Quotient of Excised Renal Tissue.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1926
Conclusions1. It is shown by complete double respiratory quotients that in the case of renal tissue, the error of the Warburg-Barcroft manometers is, on the average, ±0.014.2. The quotients were all between 0.7 and 1.0, and are fully accounted for by the oxidation of foodstuffs, without postulating the transformation of one into another.3. As evidenced
