The purpose of our study is to emphasise the diagnostic and therapeutic problems of metachronous colorectal cancer.Between 1990 and February 2004, amongst 185 patients that were treated for colorectal cancer, in four of them a metachronous carcinoma was diagnosed.1st patient: male 41 years, underwent colectomy of the descending colon for adenocarcinoma.

Metachronous colorectal malignancies

Sixty-two patients with metachronous colorectal malignancies who underwent surgery at the Mayo Clinic were reviewed. Fifty per cent of the patients developed a second carcinoma within 5.5 years from the time of resection of their first tumor, and the time interval for the entire group ranged from one to 23 years.

Metachronous Renal Oncocytomatosis

A renal oncocytoma is a benign and usually solitary lesion. We present a new case of diffuse oncocytomatosis in one kidney after previous contralateral surgery for an isolated oncocytoma. This very unusual situation must be kept in mind in cases of multifocal oncocytomas, as a recurrence will generally occur after partial surgery.

Metachronous colorectal cancer

A retrospective review of 1888 colorectal cancer patients demonstrated 37 metachronous cancers in 30 patients for a metachronous cancer rate of 1.6 percent. Evaluation of the index cancers consisted of the traditional single-contrast barium enema and proctoscopic evaluation.

Metachronous prostate and colon adenocarcinomas

Multiple primaries in patients with prostate cancer are uncommon. We report a case of prostate adenocarcinoma who did not receive any form of treatment, diagnosed 7 months later with colon adenocarcinoma. The patient underwent right extended hemicolectomy and recovered well.

Bilateral metachronous periosteal osteosarcoma

The first case of bilateral metachronous periosteal osteosarcoma (OS) is reported. A 14-year-old white boy presented with a 1-month history of pain and swelling in his right thigh. Periosteal OS was diagnosed on a basis of the radiologic and pathologic findings.

Tracheal bronchus, a bronchus arising from the lateral wall of the trachea, is a rare congenital anomaly. It is usually asymptomatic but symptoms could occur with relatively poor local drainage. There are a few cases of lung cancer within the tracheal bronchus reported in the literature; however, none of them were reported to be metachronous.
