Fecal Material of Captive Wild Animals as Source of CAZymes With Application Potential

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 27, Issue 8, April 2026.
With the goal to identify a novel resource of enzymes, we tested for the potential of fecal metagenomes of captive wild animals to provide CAZymes. Our data show that CAZymes profiles differed between animals with varying gut physiology and diet, and that metagenomes of captive wild animals can be considered source of diverse CAZymes including rare and

Intratumoral fungal burden of Candida tropicalis as a novel prognostic biomarker for recurrence and mortality in colorectal cancer

open access: yesCancer, Volume 132, Issue 8, 15 April 2026.
ABSTRACT Background The crucial role of gut fungus dysbiosis in the carcinogenesis and progression of colorectal cancer (CRC) has recently garnered increasing attention. In this study, the potential role of Candida tropicalis, commensal gut fungi, in predicting CRC prognosis was investigated.

Biological Degradation of Phthalates: From Bioremediation to Plastic Waste Valorization

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 7, 14 April 2026.
Phthalic acid isomers play a key role in the plastics industry, but pose significant environmental and health concerns. This review explores the microbial biodegradation of phthalates and their esters, focusing on bacterial enzymes, catabolic pathways, and cellular uptake mechanisms of phthalates.

Highly Resolved Community Sewage Metagenomics Unveiling Landscape and Transmission Patterns of Antibiotic Resistome in Hong Kong Populations

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 20, 9 April 2026.
A large‐scale, high‐resolution antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance in Hong Kong community sewage combining short‐ and long‐read sequencing. The resistome profile is comprehensively characterized, and this upstream sampling strategy demonstrated superiority in reflecting the human gut resistome.
