Aging Effects on PTCR Ceramics: SEM and C‐AFM Analysis of Electrical Conductivity and Domain Structures

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Ceramic Technology, Volume 23, Issue 4, August 2026.
ABSTRACT This study examines the impact of aging on the electrical and structural properties of positive temperature coefficient of resistance (PTCR) ceramics. The presented study introduces a correlative scanning electron microscopy (SEM)/conductive atomic force microscopy (C‐AFM) approach enabling repeated, site‐specific characterization of ...

dv/dt Dependence in metal oxide varistors

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 1986
A dv/dt dependence has been observed in metal oxide varis-tors during impulse testing. A lossy dielectric model which provides a qualitative explanation of this behaviour can also be used to account for current overshoot.

Strain‐Induced Redistribution of Point Defects in ZnO Nanoparticles

open access: yesSmall Science, Volume 6, Issue 3, March 2026.
Powder compaction generates local strain effects in ZnO nanoparticles. This alters the abundance of intrinsic point defects and impacts the semiconductor's electronic structure. Such changes were analyzed by a combination of spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations and emphasize the importance of strain effects in the design and ...

Ultra‐Rapid Blacklight Sintering for ZnO‐Based Varistors With Optimized Functional Properties

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT The increasing demand for energy‐efficient optoelectronic systems has intensified interest in high‐performance ceramic varistors, which are critical components in surge protection applications. In this study, ZnO‐based varistors were fabricated using a novel blacklight sintering (BLS) technique, which employs high‐powered blue light, and were ...

Temperature monitoring of metal oxide surge arresters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Varistor overtemperature above the ambient is an important state parameter of metal oxide surge arresters. The temperature monitoring using passive SAW sensors enables realisation of a surge counter function, an energy monitor, monitoring of electrical ...

Development of a Low-Energy Mobile Current Waveform Impulse Generator for Application in Low Voltage Surge Arresters [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Archives of Biology and Technology
Surge arresters are at the forefront of protection against voltage surges. The loss of the protective effect of surge arresters imposes accidents and unplanned shutdowns on the power system.

Grain Boundary Space Charge Engineering of Solid Oxide Electrolytes: Model Thin Film Study

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 14, 16 February 2026.
This study demonstrates unprecedented control of grain boundary electrical properties in solid electrolytes. Selective diffusion of cations through grain boundaries in thin films enables 12 orders of magnitude variation in ionic resistance, proving that systematic chemical modification of grain boundary electrical properties is feasible.

Electro-Thermal Modeling of Metal-Oxide Arrester under Power Frequency Applied Voltages

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
Metal-oxide arresters (MOAs) are used to absorb the electrical energy resulting from overvoltages in power systems. However, temperature rises caused by the absorbed energy can lead to the electrothermal failure of MOAs.
