Cryogenic DC Circuit Breaker Based on High‐Power Press‐Pack IGBT

open access: yesIET Electric Power Applications, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
This paper presents the performance of cryogenically compatible 3.3 kV/1.5 kA PP‐IGBTs as the main circuit breaker in a hybrid circuit breaker. The 3.3 kV/1.5 kA press‐pack IGBT can interrupt currents exceeding 5.1 kA when immersed in a liquid nitrogen bath. PP‐IGBTs are promising candidates for high‐power circuit breakers in cryogenically cooled power

Ageing Behaviours and Mechanisms of SiC MOSFET and Si IGBT in DC Solid‐State Circuit Breaker

open access: yesIET Electric Power Applications, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
We propose that this distributed thermal profile in IGBT mitigates localised stress. Conversely, the high concentration of thermal stress in SiC MOSFET's gate region leads to its severe ageing. ABSTRACT The rapid development of DC power systems in applications such as electric aircraft and microgrids has highlighted the need for high‐performance DC ...

A voltage-clamped bidirectional fault current limiter based on a three-winding coupled inductor for DC power grids

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems
The DC fault is a serious challenge to voltage-source-converter-based HVDC (VSC-HVDC) systems, and the fault current limiter (FCL) is one of the key measures to solve the DC fault and reduce the capacity of the DC circuit breaker.

A Novel Approach for Mitigating Electrical Losses and Current Unbalance in Low Voltage Distribution Networks

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission &Distribution, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
In this method, by increasing the degrees of freedom of the unbalanced IEEE 906 bus low‐voltage reference network through load transfer switches, the optimal network configuration is proposed using a meta‐heuristic algorithm to solve this constrained large‐scale optimization problem for the purpose of electrical losses reduction.
