Investigation of the Influence of Technology Parameters and Thread Type on Embroidered Textile Element Quality

open access: yesAUTEX Research Journal, 2020
Embroidery can be applied to improve esthetic or functional properties of products. However, the expected appearance of the original design may be discarded by unsuitable selected technological parameters of embroidery machine. Thus, the influence of the

Disentangling structural and kinetic components of the α-relaxation in supercooled metallic liquids

open access: yesCommunications Physics, 2022
Elucidating the different microscopic mechanisms approaching the glass transition is challenging, particularly when considering the evolution of a supercooled liquid. Here, using synchrotron-based methods, the authors report the evolution of the dynamics

Elastic properties of Zr-based bulk metallic glasses studied by resonant ultrasound spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yes
We report measurements of the elastic properties of Zr-based bulk metallic glasses, Zr52.5Cu17.9Ni14.6Al10Ti5, Zr50Cu30Ni10Al10, and Zr50Cu40Al10 between 5 K and 300 K.

Metallic to half-metallic transition driven by pressure and anion composition in niobium oxyfluoride [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Half-metallic materials play a key role in the development of spintronics, but few suitable materials are known. Continuously varying the ratio of two anions in a single material offers one route to enhance half-metallic behaviour.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Metal–metal bonds in biology [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Inorganic Biochemistry, 2012
Nickel-containing carbon monoxide dehydrogenases, acetyl-CoA synthases, nickel-iron hydrogenases, and diron hydrogenases are distinct metalloenzymes yet they share a number of important characteristics. All are O(2)-sensitive, with active-sites composed of iron and/or nickel ions coordinated primarily by sulfur ligands.

Metallic glass fiber-reinforced Zr-based bulk metallic glass [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A novel Zr-based bulk metallic glass composite was fabricated using stainless steel capillaries as the reinforcement. Large plasticity\ud (14%) was achieved in the composite with a reinforcement volume fraction of 38%. The high plasticity observed can be

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
