Shear banding in metallic glasses described by alignments of Eshelby quadrupoles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Plastic deformation of metallic glasses performed well below the glass transition temperature leads to the formation of shear bands as a result of shear localization.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Entropy of Conduction Electrons from Transport Experiments

open access: yesEntropy, 2020
The entropy of conduction electrons was evaluated utilizing the thermodynamic definition of the Seebeck coefficient as a tool. This analysis was applied to two different kinds of scientific questions that can—if at all—be only partially ...

Effect of Ge addition on the clustering of naturally-aged Al–Mg–Si–Cu alloy

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
Ge addition effect on the delaying natural aging of Al–Mg–Si–Cu alloy was investigated. Natural aging kinetic and cluster size was suppressed by the Ge addition. Using atom probe tomography, it was found that Ge refines cluster evolution by disturbing Mg-

Thickness dependence of unidirectional spin-Hall magnetoresistance in metallic bilayers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
A nonlinear magnetoresistance - called unidirectional spin-Hall magnetoresistance - is recently experimentally discovered in metallic bilayers consisting of a heavy metal and a ferromagnetic metal.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Separation of Highly Pure Semiconducting Single-Wall Carbon Nanotubes in Alkane Solvents via Double Liquid-Phase Extraction

open access: yesNanomaterials
This study delves into the distinctive selective property exhibited by a non-conjugated cholesterol-based polymer, poly(CEM11-b-EHA7), in sorting semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes (s-SWCNTs) within isooctane.

Creating double negative index materials using the Babinet principle with one metasurface

open access: yes, 2013
Metamaterials are patterned metallic structures which permit access to a novel electromagnetic response, negative index of refraction, impossible to achieve with naturally occurring materials.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.
