Structure and Radiation Damage of Metallic Glasses

open access: yesУспехи физики металлов, 2002
Two most known models of metallic-glass structure — the model of random closepacked spheres and the polycluster model — are considered. Peculiarities of the structure defects of glasses possessing these structures are compared.

Excellent glass forming ability and plasticity in high entropy Zr20Ti20Hf20M20Be20 (M = Cu, Ni, Co) alloys

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2018
We reported here the studies of a series of Zr20Ti20Hf20M20Be20 (M = Cu, Ni and Co) quinary high entropy bulk metallic glasses. Glasses with critical diameters (Dc) of 3 mm, 8 mm and 5 mm, respectively has been successfully fabricated by copper mold ...

Two-way tuning of structural order in metallic glasses

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
While metallic glasses are expected to have tunable structures, these have rarely been demonstrated. Here, the authors combine temperature and pressure to show a two-way structural tuning in rare earth-based metallic glasses beyond the nearest-neighbor ...

Improving plasticity of metallic glass by electropulsing-assisted surface severe plastic deformation

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2019
Using either electropulsing (EP) or surface severe plastic deformation (SSPD) to process metallic glasses can improve their plasticity, however, the moderate improvement in plasticity does not warrant a commercial usage.

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Carboxylic‐Acid Functionalized Multiwalled Carbon Nanotube‐Alkane‐Based Resistive Temperature Sensor for Cold Chain Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a reversible temperature sensor with high switching ratio, ∼103. The device is fabricated using PET‐ITO and carbon nanotube dispersions in alkane. Considering its application in cold chain logistics, a proof‐of‐concept with LED is showcased. Thus, a temperature drop below the threshold temperature (crystallization temperature of the

The comparative study of crystallization transformation in Zr-Cu-Ag metallic glasses

open access: yesResults in Physics
The crystallization transformation in Zr-Cu-Ag metallic glasses have been comparatively studied. The crystallization enthalpy ΔHx lies in the range of −56.18 ∼ −46.90 J/g for Zr50Cu38Ag12 metallic glass and −55.69 ∼ −44.70 J/g for Zr50Cu36Ag14 metallic ...

Planar Solid‐State Nanopores Toward Scalable Nanofluidic Integration Based on CMOS Technology

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present a scalable silicon‐based fabrication strategy for planar solid‐state nanopores to enable their integration with complex nanofluidic systems. Prototype devices demonstrate normal voltage‐current characteristics, good noise performance, and appreciable streaming currents. Our CMOS‐compatible fabrication process offers precise geometric control

What Do Large Language Models Know About Materials?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
If large language models (LLMs) are to be used inside the material discovery and engineering process, they must be benchmarked for the accurateness of intrinsic material knowledge. The current work introduces 1) a reasoning process through the processing–structure–property–performance chain and 2) a tool for benchmarking knowledge of LLMs concerning ...
