Microstructure Evolution of a VMnFeCoNi High‐Entropy Alloy After Synthesis, Swaging, and Annealing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The synthesis and processing (rotary swaging and annealing) of the novel VMnFeCoNi alloy is investigated, alongside the estimation of the grain size effect on hardness. Analysis of a wide grain size range of recrystallized microstructures (12–210 µm) reveals a low annealing twin density.

Casting techniques of cannonballs from the Akko 1 shipwreck: Archaeometallurgical investigation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mining and Metallurgy. Section B: Metallurgy, 2013
Eleven cannonballs were found in the Akko 1 shipwreck; two of them, a 9-pdr and a 24-pdr, were retrieved and studied using archaeometallurgical methods. Findings are reported in the present work. The aim of this research was to study the manufacturing

Atomic Scale Insight Into High Voltage Degradation Mechanism in YSZ Electrolyte for Solid Oxide Electrolyzer Applications

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
The evolution of yttria‐stabilized zirconia (YSZ) electrolyte microstructure after testing at progressively high voltages was captured at the micro‐ and atomic‐scale levels to determine the operational boundaries of a solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC).

Sum rules for X-ray magnetic circular dichroism spectra in strongly correlated ferromagnets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
It is proven that the sum rules for X-ray magnetic dichroism (XMCD) spectra that are used to separate spin and orbital contributions to the magnetic moment are formally correct for an arbitrary strength of electron-electron interactions.

Effect of Heat Treatment Parameters on Microstructure, Hardness, and Corrosion Resistance of Martensitic Stainless Steel X30Cr13 (AISI 420B)

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, EarlyView.
The hardness and corrosion resistance of the martensitic stainless steel X30Cr13 depend directly on the applied heat treatment. This article describes and discusses the relationships between alloy composition, thermodynamic phase stabilities, heat treatment parameters, resulting microstructures, and achievable corrosion resistance. To investigate these

Experimental Determination of a Strain State in a Bulk Forming of a Low Carbon Steel

open access: yesMedžiagotyra
An experimental metallographic method for determining strain distribution in a cold formed workpiece is presented in this paper. The method, based on the dependence of recrystallized grain size on prior deformation, was applied to a bulk formed element ...

Failure analysis of a hydraulic press clamp

open access: yesRevista Facultad de Ingeniería Universidad de Antioquia, 2014
This paper describes the analysis and investigation of the causes of the failure of an hydraulic press jaw face grip. Analysis of the fractured surfaces indicated the creation of cracks due to stress concentrators as a result of defective design. On the

Influence of Heat Treatment and Scan Rotation on the Microstructure of Hot Work Tool Steel Manufactured using Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
The study investigates the influence of heat treatment and scan rotation on the microstructure of a modified H13 tool steel manufactured using laser powder bed fusion. Key findings include the refinement of prior austenite grains (PAGs) due to recrystallization and carbide pinning, and the significant impact of scan rotation on the size distribution of
