The overall schematic diagram showing the comparison among various deep learning models for metallographic images. ABSTRACT Segmenting metallographic pictures is being done in material science and related domains in order to detect the features within them. Therefore, it becomes crucial to find grains and secondary phase particles.

Metallography of powder metallurgy materials [PDF]
The primary distinction between the microstructure of an ingot metallurgy/wrought material and one fabricated by the powder metallurgy route of pressing followed by sintering is the presence of porosity in the latter. In its various morphologies, porosity affects the mechanical, physical, chemical, electrical and thermal properties of the material ...

A super-ductile alloy for the die-casting of aluminium automotive body structural components [PDF]
Super-ductile die-cast aluminium alloys are critical to future light-weighting of automotive body structures. This paper introduces a die-cast aluminium alloy that can satisfy the requirements of these applications.

ABSTRACT This study characterized the micro‐/defect‐structure of laser powder bed fused (L‐PBF) Scalmalloy and investigated its mechanical behavior across a wide temperature range. Hot isostatic pressing effectively reduced defect content while maintaining similar microstructure and room temperature tensile properties to stress relief condition; thus ...

Assessing the Very High Cycle Fatigue Behavior and Frequency Effect of Structural Steel Welds
ABSTRACT The very high cycle fatigue behavior of S275J2+N flux‐core arc welded joints was investigated using the ultrasonic fatigue testing method at a loading frequency of 20 kHz. A bespoke specimen design featuring the weld toe was employed to more suitably represent in‐service welded joints than typical ultrasonic fatigue testing specimens.

Microstructures and mechanical properties of pure tantalum processed by high-pressure torsion
A body-centred cubic (BCC) structure metal, tantalum, was processed by high- pressure torsion (HPT) at room temperature with different numbers of rotations. The microstructural evolution was studied by electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD).

Investigations on Fatigue Life of Ball Pin After Laser Shock Peening
ABSTRACT In the present work, laser shock peening (LSP) was applied on critical areas of ball pins made of 41CrS4 steel to extend their fatigue life. The treatment introduced compressive residual stresses up to a depth of 1 mm with maximum value of −592 MPa on the ball pin surface. This led to a suppression of fretting fatigue in the conical section of

Induction Weld Seam Characterization of Continuously Roll Formed TRIP690 Tubes
The weld seam characteristics of continuously roll formed and induction seam welded TRIP690 tubes were examined in this work. These tube are subsequently used in automotive hydroforming applications, where the weld seam characteristics are critical.
