Reduction of Oxide Inclusions During the High‐Frequency Welding of Steel via a Nonthermal Ar/H2 Plasma Jet

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐frequency (HF) welding of steel is limited by oxide inclusions that degrade weld quality. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of a nonthermal Ar/H2 dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet into HF welding. Local plasma treatment provides effective shielding and in‐situ oxide reduction, resulting in markedly fewer and ...

In situ correlation between metastable phase-transformation mechanism and kinetics in a metallic glass

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
The competition between the formation of different phases and their kinetics need to be clearly understood to make materials with on-demand and multifaceted properties.

Handbook of Establishing and Maintaining Oxygen‐Free Atmospheres

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a practical framework for creating oxygen‐free atmospheres at ambient pressure using silane‐doped inert gases. The results show that ultra‐low oxygen levels and strongly reduced water content can be achieved through controlled silane dosing, drying systems, and sensor monitoring.

Biocompatible Composite Filaments Printable by Fused Deposition Modelling Technique: Selection of Tuning Parameters by Influence of Biogenic Hydroxyapatite and Graphene Nanoplatelets Ratios

open access: yesBiomimetics
The proposed strategy for the extrusion of printable composite filaments follows the favourable association of biogenic hydroxyapatite (HA) and graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) as reinforcement materials for a poly(lactic acid) (PLA) matrix.

Alloying-related trends from first principles: An application to the Ti--Al--X--N system

open access: yes, 2013
Tailoring and improving material properties by alloying is a long-known and used concept. Recent research has demonstrated the potential of ab initio calculations in understanding the material properties at the nanoscale.

Oxide‐Free Titanium Coatings by Wire Arc Spraying in a Silane‐Doped Inert Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A silane‐doped argon atmosphere enables the production of oxide‐free titanium coatings via twin‐wire arc spraying at ambient pressure. This innovative approach eliminates residual oxygen, creating process conditions that prevent oxidation and nitride formation.

Thermodynamic assessment of the Al-Mo-V ternary system [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mining and Metallurgy. Section B: Metallurgy, 2017
Thermodynamic assessment of the Al-Mo-V ternary system was performed by means of the CALPHAD (CALculation of PHAse Diagram) approach based on the thermodynamic descriptions of three constitutive binary systems (Al-Mo, Al-V and Mo-V) as well as ...

Interfacial instability-driven amorphization/nanocrystallization in a bulk Ni45Cu5Ti33Zr16Si1 alloy during solidification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We report on experimental evidence for local amorphization/nanocrystallization at the interfaces between the B2-ordered Ni(Ti,Zr) phase and the NiTiZr phase with P63/mmc during solidification of a multicomponent Ni45Cu5Ti33Zr16Si1 alloy. So far there are

Application of Raman and Photoluminescence Spectroscopy to MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Visible to near infrared luminescence of MgO is studied on MgO‐C bricks and nominally pure MgO powder, with focus on two similar sharp high‐intensity signals, at 699 and 871 nm, each surrounded by symmetrical sidebands. The nature of these sidebands is investigated by temperature‐dependent spectroscopic measurements, confirming phonon involvement by ...
