Anthropogenic heavy metals in organic forest soils [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The continuous heavy metal accumulation in organic topsoils in forests will pose problems for soil microbial health for many years to come. The primary objective of this thesis was to investigate heavy metal pollution in forest soils and its effects on ...

Background levels of heavy metals in surficial sediments of the Gulf of Lions (NW Mediterranean): An approach based on 133Cs normalization and lead isotope measurements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
This paper presents an attempt to reach natural background levels of heavy metals in surficial sediments of the Gulf of Lions(NW Mediterranean). To correct for the grain-size effect, normalization procedures based on a clay mineral indicator element are ...

Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...

Heavy metals pollution from smelting activities: A threat to soil and groundwater.

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety
Throughout the literature, the word "heavy metal" (HM) has been utilized to describe soil contamination; in this context, we characterize it as those elements with a density greater than 5 g per cubic centimeter.

STUDY OF RISK EXPOSURE ASSESSMENT FOR EGYPTIAN INFANTS EXPOSED TO DIOXIN INTAKE IN COMMERCIAL BABY MILK [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Plant Protection and Pathology, 2012
Dioxin is ubiquitous highly toxic environmental pollutants, which exhibit a potential risk for human health. Baby milk with high amount of fat content, which includes infant formula and follow-on formula, is the major food sources for babies.

Iron homeostasis disruption and lipid peroxidation in skeletal muscle during short‐term immobilization

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
14‐day casting‐induced immobilization reduced gastrocnemius muscle mass and increased non‐heme iron and ferritin heavy chain levels. Despite iron accumulation, transferrin receptor 1 and iron regulatory protein 2 were paradoxically upregulated. Lipid peroxidation was elevated without compensatory antioxidant responses.

Riverine transfer of heavy metals from Patagonia to the southwestern Atlantic Ocean [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The occurrence and geochemical behaviour of Fe, Mn, Pb, Cu, Ni, Cr, Zn and Co are studied in riverine detrital materials transported by Patagonian rivers.

PERSISTENCE OF SOME PESTICIDES ON AND IN GRAPE AND GRAPE LEAVES [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Plant Protection and Pathology, 2009
Ebshoai and Sennoris  are two cities were selected in Fayoum governorate to evaluate four  pesticides {azoxystrubin, l-cyhalothrin, fenhexamid and cyprodinil } for persistence and preharvest intervals.

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Determination of Dimethoate and Malathion Residues on and in Moloukhia Leaves [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Plant Protection and Pathology, 2016
These studies were carried out to investigate the residual and behavior of two organophosphorus insecticides( dimethoate and malathion) on and in moloukhia leaves (Chorchrus olitorius) and how to minimize these residues.
