Using highly concentrated chloride solutions to leach valuable metals from cathode-active materials in spent lithium-ion batteries [PDF]
This study focused on the extraction of valuable metals from the cathode-active materials in spent lithium-ion batteries using a high-concentration chloride solution. The effects of the concentrations of ammonium chloride (NH4Cl), hydrochloric acid (HCl),

Formation of Structure and Properties in Casting Processes on the Example of AZ91 Magnesium Alloy
Contemporary materials engineering requires the use of materials characterised by high mechanical properties, as these precisely properties determine the choice of material for parts of machinery and equipment. Owing to these properties it is possible to

Metal–metal bonds in biology [PDF]
Nickel-containing carbon monoxide dehydrogenases, acetyl-CoA synthases, nickel-iron hydrogenases, and diron hydrogenases are distinct metalloenzymes yet they share a number of important characteristics. All are O(2)-sensitive, with active-sites composed of iron and/or nickel ions coordinated primarily by sulfur ligands.

We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Crystallographic Orientation, Recrystallization, and Texture Development in AZ91 Magnesium Alloy Rods Fabricated by Continuous Rotary Extrusion (CRE) [PDF]
The magnesium alloy AZ91 is widely used in the aviation and automotive industries, where high mechanical properties combined with low density are required. Searching for new, advanced deformation methods in these industries is also essential.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

The Effect of Dispersion Phases of SiC and Al2O3 on the Properties of Galvanic Nickel Coatings
In this study, Ni, Ni-SiC and Ni-Al2O3 coatings were electroplated on the 2xxx series aluminium alloy. The following parameters of the electroplating process were applied: current density - 4A/dm2, time - 60 minutes, and temperature - 60°C.
