Metal Enrichment of the Intergalactic Medium in Cosmological Simulations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Observations have established that the diffuse intergalactic medium (IGM) at z ~ 3 is enriched to ~0.1-1% solar metallicity and that the hot gas in large clusters of galaxies (ICM) is enriched to 1/3-1/2 solar metallicity at z=0.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

The Effect of Extrusion Parameters on Possibility of Extrusion of Magnesium Alloys in Continuous Rotary Extrusion Process / Wpływ Parametrów Procesu Wyciskania Na Możliwość Wyciskania Stopów Magnezu Metodą Ciągłego Wyciskania Na Kole

open access: yesArchives of Metallurgy and Materials, 2015
Continuous rotary extrusion (CRE) is the more and more frequently used variation of the plastic working process. Magnesium alloys, due to its properties are becoming increasingly popular as a substitute for aluminium alloys and steel, particularly in the

Thermal diffusivity and chaos in metals without quasiparticles

open access: yes, 2017
We study the thermal diffusivity $D_T$ in models of metals without quasiparticle excitations (`strange metals'). The many-body quantum chaos and transport properties of such metals can be efficiently described by a holographic representation in a ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

The metals-to-dust ratio to very low metallicities using GRB and QSO absorbers; extremely rapid dust formation

open access: yes, 2013
Among the key parameters defining the ISM of galaxies is the fraction of the metals that are locked up in dust: the metals-to-dust ratio. This ratio bears not only on the ISM and its evolution, but particularly on the origin of cosmic dust.

Metal–Metal Bonding

open access: yes, 2013
This chapter deals with the electronic structure of metal-metal bonds in molecular systems, a diverse topic that now spans almost the entire periodic table. The field is most often associated with strong multiple bonds such as the iconic quadruple bond in [Re2Cl8]2-, and the recently discovered ultra-short Cr-Cr quintuple bonds provide a remarkable ...
