A broadband planar acoustic metamaterial lens

Physics Letters A, 2019
Abstract Based on quasi-conformal mapping approach, we propose a two-dimensional broadband and low-loss planar lens in the acoustic regime, which can be realized using gradient-index sub-wavelength artificial structures with hard boundary. In this design, QCM is employed in the acoustic regime to convert a parabolic form into a planar one, which ...

Design and Optimization of an Acoustic Metamaterial Lens

2020 SoutheastCon, 2020
Metamaterials have been of interest in the field of optics for some time as they allow researchers to customize the properties of a material. The same theory that is applied to electromagnetic waves for metamaterial design can also be applied to acoustic waves.

A Complementary Lens Based on Broadband Metamaterials

Journal of Electromagnetic Waves and Applications, 2010
We have designed a two-dimensional planar lens based on the complementary I-shape units. The resonant frequencies for these units are extremely high so that at low frequencies the effective permittivity and permeability change slowly, which is especially useful for constructing broadband and low-loss electromagnetic devices.

Metamaterial lens for magnetic resonance imaging

2015 International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT), 2015
A metamaterial lens is presented for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) application, which is expected to enhance the magnetic field intensity of the surface coil and improve the signal to noise ratio (SNR) of the MRI system. The lens is based on a split-ring constructed into a three dimensional cuboid, providing permeability μ = −1.

SRR Metamaterial Lens Design

2018
In this study, the use of Split Ring Resonator SRR metamaterial (MM) lens for Ku band micro-strip patch antenna directivity gain improvement is shown. In order to obtain the focus in the Ku band, a SRR metamaterial lens with a negative refractive index in the same band is designed and placed in the half-wavelength distance of the reference antenna in ...

Acoustic imaging with a metamaterial Luneburg lens

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2018
The Luneburg lens is a spherically symmetrical gradient refractive index device with unique imaging properties. Its wide field-of-view and minimal aberration have led it to be successfully applied in microwave antennas. However, only limited realizations of this type of image formation have been demonstrated in acoustics.

Experimental results for a metamaterial Lüneburg lens

2019 International Conference on Electromagnetics in Advanced Applications (ICEAA), 2019
This paper presents experimental results obtained from the characterization of a mematerial Luneburg lens. Previously, a finite element numerical analysis was done in order to determine the compromise between the constitutive and the geometrical parameters. It was shown that is possible to control the effective refractive index of a single cell by only

Metamaterial magnetoinductive lens performance as a function of field strength

Journal of Magnetic Resonance, 2014
Metamaterials are artificial composites that exhibit exotic electromagnetic properties, as the ability of metamaterial slabs to behave like lenses with sub-wavelength resolution for the electric or the magnetic field. In previous works, the authors investigated magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) applications of metamaterial slabs that behave like lenses ...
