Metamorphers [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 33rd Spring Conference on Computer Graphics, 2017
In molecular biology, illustrative animations are used to convey complex biological phenomena to broad audiences. However, such animations have to be manually authored in 3D modeling software, a time consuming task that has to be repeated from scratch for every new data set, and requires a high level of expertise in illustration, animation, and biology.

Predicting long‐term population viability for an imperiled salamander under future climate changes

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
We evaluated the long‐term viability of 2 reticulated flatwoods salamander (Ambystoma bishopi) populations in response to multiple future climate change scenarios. We found that there is a high probability of extinction by 2100 under some scenarios, mostly driven by severe droughts and repeated reproductive failure. Conservation actions should focus on

Imbrication and Erosional Tectonics Recorded by Garnets in the Sikkim Himalayas

open access: yesGeosciences, 2022
The Sikkim region of the Himalayas (NE India) may form an important microplate between Nepal and Bhutan. Here we report high-resolution pressure-temperature (P-T) paths taken from garnet-bearing rocks across the northern and eastern portion of the region’

Disequilibrium metamorphism of stressed lithosphere

open access: yes, 2016
Most changes in mineralogy, density, and rheology of the Earth's lithosphere take place by metamorphism, whereby rocks evolve through interactions between minerals and fluids.

Turbulent snow transport and accumulation: New reduced‐order models and diagnostics

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Our new reduced‐order models of snow particle transport provide high‐fidelity calculations of snow accumulation in turbulent flows at significantly reduced computational costs. Additional accumulation diagnostics from the reduced‐order model predict complex patterns of particle concentration in turbulent boundary layers via coherent flow structures in ...

Cooling history of the eastern Svecokarelides: whole-rock and mica Rb-Sr and hornblende K-Ar ages in the areas of Pihtipudas-Iisalmi and Joroinen-Sulkava, Finland [PDF]

open access: yesBulletin of the Geological Society of Finland, 1990
Rb-Sr age determination on mica and whole-rock samples and K-Ar age determination on hornblendes were carried out to get information on the time of metamorphism and early cooling in two Proterozic areas of the Finnish Svecokarelides.

Spatio-Temporal Evolution of Intermediate-Depth Seismicity Beneath the Himalayas: Implications for Metamorphism and Tectonics

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2021
Intermediate-depth earthquakes (>40 km) have been observed beneath the central Himalayas over decades, with little known about their nature and characteristics.

Metamorphism and Metamorphic Rocks

open access: yes, 2013
In the previous chapters, we learned about igneous and sedimentary rocks. This chapter presents some general concepts concerned with the process of metamorphism and the formation of metamorphic rocks. How pressure, temperature, and fluids control metamorphic processes and resulting metamorphic changes are discussed.

LamelODF: a MATLAB‐based toolbox for orientation distribution analysis and mapping of lamellar minerals for laboratory and synchrotron X‐ray diffractometers

open access: yesJournal of Applied Crystallography, EarlyView.
LamelODF is a MATLAB‐based toolbox aimed at simplifying the automated extraction of orientation distribution functions from 2D X‐ray diffraction data of lamellar minerals in transmission mode. It accommodates both laboratory and synchrotron data formats, providing an integrated pipeline from raw data to spatially resolved textural maps, enabling robust

New Magnetite Reference Material for SIMS δ18O Measurements and a Study of Precision and Accuracy Due to Crystal Orientation Effects

open access: yesGeostandards and Geoanalytical Research, EarlyView.
Key Points A new magnetite reference material (PF21mt) is available for δ18O measurements by SIMS. Reproducibility of measurement results in two laboratories suggest orientation bias of ±2‰ (2s) at 20 keV. Repeatability improves to ±1‰ (2s) when using a 13 keV protocol, suggesting reduced orientation bias. In situ isotope ratio measurements provide the
