Experimental and constitutive modeling investigations on marble in Jinping Underground Laboratory

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The objective of this study is to reveal the underlying mechanisms behind the brittle‐ductile transition of the marble through a combination of experimental research and constitutive modeling. A series of triaxial compression and triaxial cyclic loading tests are conducted.

Advancing mine pillar design: Evaluating traditional methods and integrating AI for enhanced stability of pillars in the Great Dyke, Zimbabwe

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
B1 is bord width 1, B2 is bord width 2, L is the pillar length, W is the pillar width, red color and letter A represent the pillars, and white color and number 1 represent excavated areas. Pstress is the average pillar stress; σv is the vertical component of the virgin stress, MPa; and e is the areal extraction ratio. e = B o B o + B P ${\rm{e}}=\frac{{

Kin Competition Drives the Evolution of Earlier Metamorphosis

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Metamorphosis, the discrete morphological change between postembryonic life stages, is widespread across the animal kingdom. The suggested advantages of metamorphosis have usually been framed in terms of population benefits, i.e., ecological explanations.

Research progress and current status of dynamic wave propagation characteristics in rock mass: A review

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This review elucidates the velocity–dispersion–attenuation coupling mechanisms of wave propagation in rock masses, compares six representative models, and reveals how pressure, temperature, mineral composition, and anisotropy jointly control dynamic responses in complex geological media.

Timing is everything: PTTH mediated DHR4 nucleocytoplasmic trafficking sets the tempo of Drosophila steroid production

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2011
During development multicellular organisms must become sexually mature to reproduce. But what underlying developmental clock times this transition? Recent data shows that in fly larvae, nuclear-cytoplasmic trafficking of DHR4, a nuclear receptor, in ...

Robinow syndrome DVL1 variants disrupt morphogenesis and appendage formation in a Drosophila disease model

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Robinow syndrome is a rare developmental syndrome caused by variants in genes in Wnt signaling pathways. We previously showed that expression of patient variants in Dishevelled 1 (DVL1) in Drosophila and chicken models disrupts the balance of canonical and non‐canonical Wnt signaling.

Dynamics of Redox Metabolism during Complete Metamorphosis of Insects: Insights from the Sunflower Caterpillar Chlosyne lacinia (Lepidoptera)

open access: yesAntioxidants
Complete insect metamorphosis requires substantial metabolic and physiological adjustments. Although oxidative stress has been implicated in metamorphosis, details on redox metabolism during larva-to-pupa and pupa-to-adult remain scarce.

Embryonic development of the Mediterranean starfish Hacelia attenuata

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Starfish play essential ecological roles as predators and ecosystem regulators; however, detailed developmental descriptions exist for only a handful of species, none of which are from the Mediterranean Sea. Results In this study, we provide the first full account of the development of the Mediterranean starfish Hacelia attenuata ...

Machine Learning‐Driven Classification and Production Capacity Prediction of Tight Sandstone Reservoirs: A Case Study of the Taiyuan Formation, Ordos Basin

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
On the basis of core and log data, a Bayesian‐Optimized Random Forest model achieved 92.76% accuracy in classifying tight sandstone reservoirs. A gray relational analysis‐derived evaluation index shows > 80% consistency with actual gas zones. ABSTRACT Tight sandstone gas (TSG), an unconventional oil–gas resource, has heterogeneous reservoirs ...

Heritability Estimates for Growth Traits and Correlation Analysis between Weight and Metamorphosis Rate in the Bullfrog Rana (Aquarana) catesbeiana

open access: yesFishes
Metamorphosis is a crucial process in the life cycle of Rana (Aquarana) catesbeiana. R. catesbeiana tadpoles, in their short larval period, possess a high survival rate and also a highly competitive ability in the amphibious stage.
