Plasma metanephrines in renal failure [PDF]

open access: yesKidney International, 2005
Diagnosis of pheochromocytoma in renal failure poses a diagnostic dilemma due to lack of reliability of conventional urinary measurements of catecholamine excess. Measurements of the plasma metanephrines, normetanephrine and metanephrine (the O-methylated metabolites of norepinephrine and epinephrine), provide an alternative diagnostic test.

The Pheochromocytoma/Paraganglioma syndrome: an overview on mechanisms, diagnosis and management [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Brazilian Journal of Urology, 2023

Serial Hydrolysis for the Simultaneous Analysis of Catecholamines and Steroids in the Urine of Patients with Alopecia Areata

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
Catecholamines and steroids are well-known neurotransmitters and hormones that rapidly change the excitability of neurons. Alopecia areata is a disease for which the exact cause is unknown, but it is considered to be associated with stress, and so the ...

Low number of neurosecretory vesicles in neuroblastoma impairs massive catecholamine release and prevents hypertension

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2022
IntroductionNeuroblastoma (NB) is a pediatric cancer of the developing sympathetic nervous system. It produces and releases metanephrines, which are used as biomarkers for diagnosis in plasma and urine. However, plasma catecholamine concentrations remain

Plasma Metanephrines in the Diagnosis of Pheochromocytoma [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Internal Medicine, 1995
To examine whether tests for plasma metanephrines, the o-methylated metabolites of catecholamines, offer advantages for diagnosis of a pheochromocytoma over standard tests for plasma catecholamines or urinary metanephrines.Cross-sectional study.3 clinical specialist centers.52 patients with a pheochromocytoma; 67 normotensive persons and 51 patients ...

Metanephrine negative pheochromocytoma: a rare case report of dopamine-secreting tumor in an adolescent neurofibromatosis type 1 patient [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Pediatric Endocrinology & Metabolism, 2022
Pheochromocytoma (PCC) occurs in 4% of pediatric neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) patients and is characterized by epinephrine and norepinephrine secretion. Herein, we report the first case of dopamine-secreting PCC in a 13-year-old patient with NF1.
