Structure of the human metapneumovirus polymerase phosphoprotein complex

open access: yesNature, 2019
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and human metapneumovirus (HMPV) cause severe respiratory diseases in infants and elderly adults 1 . No vaccine or effective antiviral therapy currently exists to control RSV or HMPV infections.

Pneumococcal Coinfection with Human Metapneumovirus [PDF]

open access: bronzeThe Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2006
Infection with the newly discovered human metapneumovirus (hMPV) may lead to hospitalization of children with lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI), although the pathogenesis thereof remains to be elucidated. This hypothesis-generating study involved a cohort of children randomized to receive 9-valent conjugate pneumococcal vaccine or placebo and who

Respiratory admissions and impact of COVID‐19 lockdowns for children with severe cerebral palsy

open access: yesDevelopmental Medicine &Child Neurology, EarlyView.
In a population cohort of children with severe cerebral palsy, there was a reduced frequency of hospitalization for respiratory illness during periods of restricted social contact, implemented to reduce transmission of COVID‐19. This mirrored trends in the wider population and underlines the importance of community viral transmission in these children.

Genotypes and clinical data of respiratory syncytial virus and metapneumovirus in brazilian infants: a new perspective

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases
The aim of this study was to determine if there was a correlation between respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and metapneumovirus (MPV) genotypes and clinical data of Brazilian infants hospitalized for acute lower respiratory infection.

Seroprevalence of avian metapneumovirus infection in broiler and broiler breeder chickens in Iran

open access: yesVeterinární Medicína, 2011
Avian metapneumovirus causes an acute highly contagious upper respiratory tract infection primarily of turkeys and chickens. The disease can cause significant economic losses in turkey and chicken flocks, particularly when exacerbated by secondary ...

Avian Metapneumovirus subtype B around Europe: a phylodynamic reconstruction

open access: yesVeterinary Research, 2020
Avian Metapneumovirus (aMPV) has been recognized as a respiratory pathogen of turkey and chickens for a long time. Recently, a crescent awareness of aMPV, especially subtype B, clinical and economic impact has risen among European researchers and ...

Risk Factors for Severe Bronchiolitis in Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand Infants: A Systematic Review

open access: yesJournal of Paediatrics and Child Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim Bronchiolitis is the leading cause of hospital admission in Australasian infants. Infants with risk factors for severe disease may have a greater likelihood of prolonged hospitalisation and intensive care admission. This study aimed to synthesise the literature on risk factors for severe bronchiolitis in Australasian infants.

Recent Molecular Evolution of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV): Subdivision of HMPV A2b Strains

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2020
Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) is a major etiological agent of acute respiratory infections in humans. HMPV has been circulating worldwide for more than six decades and is currently divided into five agreed-upon subtypes: A1, A2a, A2b, B1, and B2. Recently,
