Clinical Insights Into Hypercalcemia of Malignancy in Childhood

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hypercalcemia of malignancy (HCM) is a rare but life‐threatening metabolic emergency in children that occurs in less than 1% of pediatric cancer cases, with a reported incidence ranging from 0.4% to 1.0% across different studies. While it is observed in 10%–20% of adult malignancies, pediatric HCM remains relatively uncommon.

Targeting GLI factors to inhibit the Hedgehog pathway [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Hedgehog (Hh) signaling has emerged in recent years as an attractive target for anticancer therapy because its aberrant activation is implicated in several cancers. Major progress has been made in the development of SMOOTHENED (SMO) antagonists, although

Metatypical basal cell carcinoma: from the primary tumour to a generalized metastatic process – description of diagnostics and combination therapy of an extremely rare skin cancer

open access: yesAnnals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine, 2021
Introduction Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common form of skin cancer. The hallmarks of this carcinoma are the absence of distant metastases and local malignancy.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Risk Factors and Prognosis for Metastatic Cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Cohort Study

open access: yesActa Dermato-Venereologica, 2020
Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) has metastatic potential. The aims of this study were to identify the risk factors for metastasis of primary cSCC and for poor prognosis in metastatic cSCC. Retrospective primary tumour cohorts of metastatic cSCCs

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Clinical utility of ingenol mebutate in the management of actinic keratosis. Perspectives from clinical practice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Actinic keratoses (AKs) are epidermal cutaneous neoplasia observed predominantly in middle-aged and older subjects with mainly photo type I and photo type II on sun-exposed surfaces as a result of DNA damage.

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Metastatic and locally aggressive BCC: Current treatment options

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, 2021
The treatment of locally advanced and metastatic BCC presents a significant clinical challenge. Treatment options have evolved recently to include the use of hedgehog inhibitors Vismodigib and Sonidigib and immunotherapy with Cemiplimab.

Measuring the response of human head and neck squamous cell carcinoma to irradiation in a microfluidic model allowing customized therapy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Radiotherapy is the standard treatment for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), however, radioresistance remains a major clinical problem despite significant improvements in treatment protocols. Therapeutic outcome could potentially be improved
