Methemoglobin is a form of hemoglobin that contains the ferric form of iron rather than the ferrous form. The ferric form hampers the ability of blood cells to carry oxygen and deliver it to the tissues throughout the body. When there is a large fraction of Methemoglobin in the blood, clinical symptoms appear.
