Biofilm Production, Distribution of ica Genes, and Antibiotic Resistance in Clinical Coagulase-Negative Staphylococci Isolates

open access: yesAntibiotics
Backgrounds/Objectives: This study aimed to quantify biofilm production and characterize the distribution of the biofilm-associated ica genes (icaA, icaD, icaB, icaC, icaR) in coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) isolates, and to assess the ...

Hand Hygiene Accuracy of Students and Staff at a Dutch Dental School

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Dental Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Oral health care professionals continuously come into contact with bodily fluids containing many pathogens. Hand hygiene should be used to prevent cross transmission. We aimed to examine the accuracy of application of alcohol‐based hand rub (ABHR) according to the WHO hand hygiene steps at a dental school.

Risk Factors of Blood Culture Positivity and Mortality in Bloodstream Infections: A Population‐Based Study of Patients With B‐Cell Malignancies

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Bloodstream infections remain a major cause of mortality among cancer patients. Pathogen surveillance and risk stratification tools are key to improved management. This study describes trends in causative pathogens and explores risk factors for positive blood cultures (PBCs) and post‐infection mortality in cancer patients.

Cryo‐EM structures of multiple‐peptide resistance factor (MprF) from Pseudomonas aeruginosa

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Cryo‐EM analysis of MprF from Pseudomonas aeruginosa reveals a dimeric enzyme, distinct from Rhizobium homologues. The soluble GNAT domain contains a dynamic amphipathic helix (TTH) that adopts different positions in detergent micelle and nanodisc, relative to the membrane.

Can Artificial Intelligence Be Utilised to Develop Point‐of‐Care Endodontic Microbiological Technologies?

open access: yesInternational Endodontic Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Primary or persistent endodontic disease is caused by microbial biofilms that irritate the pulp and periapical tissues. Extensive microbiological analyses of these biofilms and their constituent pathogens have revealed their diversity and complexity.

Pre‐implementation safety evaluation of an AI decision‐support system for surgical antimicrobial prophylaxis

open access: yesInternal Medicine Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Large language models (LLMs) show potential to support antimicrobial prescribing but require simulation‐based, institution‐specific safety evaluation prior to any consideration of clinical use. In Australia, antimicrobial prescribing represents a high‐risk domain for digital decision‐support systems due to patient safety and ...
