Stability of Methicillin

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1965
This paper presents the results of investigations on some of the factors influencing the stability of methicillin in solution. Rates of decomposition of methicillin in aqueous solution were determined which can be useful in a qualitative prediction of incompatibility with special reference to the effect of pH.

Placental transfer of methicillin

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1973
Abstract When methicillin was administered to mothers in labor, in doses of 500 and 1,000 mg., the maternal venous concentration (y, in micrograms per milliliter) decay with time (t, in minutes) could be described by relationships of y=23.8e −0.0z35t and y=54.0e −0.0s0t .

Methicillin-induced neutropenia

The Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, 1985
During a 14-month period 68 patients were treated with methicillin for presumed or proved staphylococcal infection. Neutropenia, defined as a total neutrophil count less than 1500/cu mm3, developed in 23 patients (35%). Eosinophilia (eosinophil count more than 700/mm3) developed in 27 patients (40%), including 11 of the neutropenic patients.

Expression of resistance to methicillin

Trends in Microbiology, 1994
Methicillin-resistant staphylococci have an additional low-affinity penicillin-binding protein, PBP2a (PBP2'), encoded by the mecA gene. The typical heterogeneity seen in the expression of resistance to methicillin and in levels of resistance depends on the concerted action of chromosomally encoded genes, including fem and aux, that are also present in

Methicillin‐resistant and methicillin‐sensitive Staphylococcus aureus laryngitis

The Laryngoscope, 2012
AbstractObjectives/Hypothesis:Despite the fact that a wide variety of head and neck methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections have been described, only four cases of MRSA laryngitis are reported in the literature. Our clinical experience suggests that this diagnosis is more common and can be more subtle that previously reported. The

Comparison of methicillin-resistant and methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia

American Journal of Infection Control, 1985
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has become endemic in Detroit, accounting for 50% of bacteremias in heroin abusers. To identify the salient epidemiologic and clinical features of MRSA bacteremia, case-control studies were performed comparing 28 cases of MRSA bacteremia to 28 cases of methicillin-sensitive S.
