Global network analysis of drug tolerance, mode of action and virulence in methicillin-resistant S. aureus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background: Staphylococcus aureus is a major human pathogen and strains resistant to existing treatments continue to emerge. Development of novel treatments is therefore important.

Risk Factors, Length of Stay and In-Hospital Mortality of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Infections: A Case-Control Study

open access: yesActa Médica Portuguesa, 2020
Introduction: The emergence of strains of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus is a serious therapeutic challenge in healthcare provision. With this study, we aimed to investigate the risk factors and clinical outcomes (mortality and length of ...

The Detection Of Methicillin Resistance In Staphylococcus Aureus [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Medical Microbiology, 1969
Summary Some methicillin-resistant cultures of Staphylococcus aureus give equivocal results when tested in disk diffusion tests or tube dilution MIC tests incubated at 37°C. Practically all resistant cultures have the following characters: (1) they give growth up to or to within 1 mm of a 10 μg methicillin disk in a disk diffusion test on nutrient agar

Impact of target site distribution for Type I restriction enzymes on the evolution of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) populations. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A limited number of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) clones are responsible for MRSA infections worldwide, and those of different lineages carry unique Type I restriction-modification (RM) variants.

Methicillin-ResistantStaphylococcus aureusin Poultry

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2009
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has been detected in several species and animal-derived products. To determine whether MRSA is present in poultry, we sampled 50 laying hens and 75 broiler chickens. MRSA was found in some broiler chickens but no laying hens. In all samples, spa type t1456 was found.
