Growing season methyl bromide and methyl chloride fluxes at a sub-arctic wetland in Sweden [PDF]
Methyl bromide and methyl chloride fluxes were measured at several sites in a sub-arctic wetland near Abisko, Sweden (68°280N 18°490E) throughout the 2008 growing season.

Solarization and biofumigation help disinfest soil
Preplant soil fumigation with methyl bromide is scheduled to be phased out by 2005. Chemical and nonchemical alternatives are being researched and identified. Soil solarization and/or biofumigation can help fill the gap in certain cases.

Methyl bromide (MB) is a broad-spectrum soil fumigant, which has been critical in strawberry production for forty years. Strawberry and other high-value cash crops benefit from pre-plant soil fumigation with MB and chloropicrin (Pic).

Alternatives to methyl bromide for Queensland strawberry production [PDF]
The reported research aimed to find effective replacements for methyl bromide in strawberry runner and fruit production. We compared the following new fumigants: methyl iodide plus chloropicrin 30:70 in Year 1, and 50:50 in year 2, 1, 3 dichloropropene;

Biofumigation: An alternative strategy for the control of plant parasitic nematodes
Plant-parasitic nematodes wreak havoc on the yield and quality of crops worldwide. Damage from these pests is estimated to exceed US$100 billion annually but is likely higher due to misdiagnosis.

Microwave Soil Heating Promotes Strawberry Runner Production and Progeny Performance
Strawberry runners (transplants) in many regions of the world are produced in soils treated with chemical fumigants to control pathogens and weeds and meet phytosanitary requirements.

Implementation of Anaerobic Soil Disinfestation in Florida Tomato Production
Anaerobic soil disinfestation (ASD) is a relatively new technique that appears to be a promising tool for soilborne pest management and crop production improvement. This new 5-page publication of the UF/IFAS Horticultural Sciences Department is intended

This study proposes a potential device design for joint cartilage replacement. Silica‐polytetrahydrofuran (SiO2‐PolyTHF) hybrids with customizable mechanical properties were developed to mimic the characteristics of a natural meniscus. These were synthesized through a two‐pot sol–gel hybrid process.
