Effect of a single pre‐operative 125 mg dose of methylprednisolone on postoperative delirium in hip fracture patients; a randomised, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled trial

open access: yesAnaesthesia, 2018
Postoperative delirium is common after hip fracture surgery, and may have a neuro‐inflammatory cause. We conducted a single‐centre, randomised, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled trial of 117 older hip fracture patients to see if a single, pre‐operative ...

Pathogenesis of feline enteric coronavirus infection. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Fifty-one specific pathogen-free (SPF) cats 10 weeks to 13 years of age were infected with a cat-to-cat fecal-oral passed strain of feline enteric coronavirus (FECV). Clinical signs ranged from unapparent to a mild and self-limiting diarrhea. Twenty-nine

Prophylactic methylprednisolone to reduce inflammation and improve outcomes from one lung ventilation in children: a randomized clinical trial. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BACKGROUND: One lung ventilation (OLV) results in inflammatory and mechanical injury, leading to intraoperative and postoperative complications in children. No interventions have been studied in children to minimize such injury.

Dopamine D1 Receptor Contributes to Glucocorticoid‐Associated Osteonecrosis of Femoral Head Protection Through the ATF3/CHOP Axis to Inhibit Osteoblastic Apoptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work identifies a novel mechanism by which dopamine D1 receptor (DRD1) contributes to the pathogenesis of glucocorticoid (GC)‐associated osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) through the regulation of osteoblastic apoptosis, indicating that DRD1 serves as a critical mediator of the crosstalk between the nervous and skeletal systems.

Methylprednisolone for the Treatment of Patients with Acute Spinal Cord Injuries: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Neurotrauma, 2016
Introduction Previous meta-analyses of methylprednisolone for patients with acute traumatic spinal cord injuries (TSCIs) have not addressed confidence in pooled effect estimates and new primary studies have been recently published.

High‐Dose Pulse Glucocorticoid Treatment Prevents White Matter Spinal Cord Pseudoatrophy in Newly Diagnosed Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Spinal cord (SC) atrophy correlates with and predicts the underlying progressive biology in active and non‐active multiple sclerosis (MS), thereby providing a biomarker for clinical trials and patient management. Initiation of disease‐modifying therapy (DMT) may be followed by early pronounced central nervous system (CNS) volume loss due to ...

A comparison of the effects of Methylprednisolone Acetate, Sodium Hyaluronate and Tenoxicam in the treatment of non-reducing disc displacement of the temporomandibular joint

open access: yesMedicina Oral, 2018
Background This clinical study aimed to radiologically and clinically compare the effect of intra-articular injection of methylprednisolone, sodium hyaluronate or tenoxicam following arthrocentesis with that of arthrocentesis alone in patients with non ...

Building a Bridge Between Ambient MS and LC‐MS by Non‐Exhaustive Microdesorption

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Accepted Article.
Ambient mass spectrometry (AMS) offers rapid screening but faces challenges in analyzing complex samples due to high matrix effects and limited selectivity. The absence of a separation step can also lead to false positives due to the isomers or isobars.
