An improved chemical ionization assay for mevalonic acid

Biological Mass Spectrometry, 1990
The determination of mevalonic acid by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) is complicated by poor extractability and multiple product formation. Reliable quantification down to physiological levels was achieved by isolating mevalonic acid by liquid partition chromatography and quantifying the underivatized lactone by means of ammonia chemical ...

In Vitro Metabolism of Mevalonic Acid in the Bovine Retina

Journal of Neurochemistry, 1986
Abstract: Bovine retinas were incubated with 3RS‐[5‐3H]‐ mevalonic acid under conditions similar to those previously shown to support opsin biosynthesis in vitro. TLC of the total lipids indicated the formation of numerous radiolabeled components, including sterols, hydrocarbons, and “fatty acid‐like material.” The nonsaponifiable lipids were analyzed

The metabolism of acetate and mevalonic acid by lactobacilli II. The incorporation of [14C]acetate and [14C]mevalonic acid into the bacterial lipids

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, 1962
Abstract Using [ 14 C]acetate and [ 14 C]mevalonic acid, it was shown that Lactobacillus casei, Lactibacillus arabinosus and Lactobacillus acidophilus incorporate from 20–35 times as much sodium acetate as mevalonic acid, the cellular concentration of mevalonic acid being from 0.5–0.9 μg/mg dry weight.
