Percolation of single-walled carbon nanotubes in ceramic matrix nanocomposites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The percolation of carbon nanotubes (CNT) in an electrical insulating ceramic is studied for the first time. The in situ synthesis of the CNT (0.2–25 vol%) by a CCVD route allows to achieve their homogeneous distribution in the spinel matrix.

Evaluation of CuO/MgAl2O4 in Biomass Chemical Looping Gasification with Oxygen Uncoupling

open access: yesBioResources, 2016
Chemical looping gasification (CLG) is a promising method for the utilization of biomass to produce syngas. However, its realization is largely dependent on the use of an oxygen carrier with a high and stable reactivity in cyclic reduction and oxidation.

Interface and electronic characterization of thin epitaxial Co3O4 films

open access: yes, 2008
The interface and electronic structure of thin (~20-74 nm) Co3O4(110) epitaxial films grown by oxygen-assisted molecular beam epitaxy on MgAl2O4(110) single crystal substrates have been investigated by means of real and reciprocal space techniques.

Effect of intensive melt shearing on the formation of Fe-containing intermetallics in LM24 Al-alloy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Fe is one of the inevitable and detrimental impurities in aluminium alloys that degrade the mechanical performance of castings. In the present work, intensive melt shearing has been demonstrated to modify the morphology of Fe-containing intermetallic ...

Formation and aggregation behavior of inclusions in Ni-based alloys with different Mg contents

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
Large non-metallic inclusions affect the mechanical properties and service life of nickel-based superalloys. This study investigates the effects of magnesium elements on non-metallic inclusions in K4169 nickel-based superalloys, exploring the formation ...

Exchange bias and interface electronic structure in Ni/Co3O4(011) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A detailed study of the exchange bias effect and the interfacial electronic structure in Ni/Co3O4(011) is reported. Large exchange anisotropies are observed at low temperatures, and the exchange bias effect persists to temperatures well above the Neel ...

Four‐Point Bending Tests at High Temperatures on Commercial MgO‐C Refractory Bricks with and Without Recyclate Considering Different Carbon Contents

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Four‐point bending tests are conducted in an argon atmosphere on commercial MgO‐C brick grades with and without MgO‐C recyclate from room temperature up to 1300 °C. No detrimental effect of the MgO‐C recyclates on bending strength is found. Instead, a decisive influence of the total carbon content is observed, with lower total carbon contents ...

Identification of Humidity Sensing Mechanism in MgAl2O4 by Impedance Spectroscopy as Function of Relative Humidity [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2018
MgAl2O4 is a humidity sensing material, which high melting point requires high sintering temperatures. In this work, manganese oxide was used as a sintering aid to obtain MgAl2O4 samples sintered at 1350°C with a microstructure suitable for humidity ...

Dilatometric characteristics of weakly sintered ceramics

open access: yesChimica Techno Acta, 2022
Thermal expansion of refractory ceramics CaZrO3, MgAl2O4, La2Zr2O7 and YSZ-12 was studied. The samples of the complex oxides were synthesized by solution combustion synthesis with glycine; the fuel:oxidant ratio was varied depending on the character of ...
