Metallothermic Reduction of MoO3 on Combustion Synthesis of Molybdenum Silicides/MgAl2O4 Composites

open access: yes, 2021
Combustion synthesis involving metallothermic reduction of MoO3 by dual reductants, Mg and Al, to enhance the reaction exothermicity was applied for the in situ production of Mo3Si–, Mo5Si3− and MoSi2–MgAl2O4 composites with a broad compositional range ...

New Magnetite Reference Material for SIMS δ18O Measurements and a Study of Precision and Accuracy Due to Crystal Orientation Effects

open access: yesGeostandards and Geoanalytical Research, Volume 50, Issue 2, Page 391-406, June 2026.
Key Points A new magnetite reference material (PF21mt) is available for δ18O measurements by SIMS. Reproducibility of measurement results in two laboratories suggest orientation bias of ±2‰ (2s) at 20 keV. Repeatability improves to ±1‰ (2s) when using a 13 keV protocol, suggesting reduced orientation bias. In situ isotope ratio measurements provide the

Compositional modifications in humidity sensing MgAl2O4 ceramics

open access: yes, 2004
The MgAl2O4 powders were synthesized using the mixed oxide technique. The powders were doped with Na+ ion to modify the sintering behavior and the response characteristics of the spinel ceramics.

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 10, 20 May 2026.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

The Influencing Factor of MgAl2O4 on Heterogeneous Nucleation and Grain Refinement in Al Alloy Melts

open access: yes, 2020
Grain refinement using oxide additions is commercially feasible and ecofriendly. MgAl2O4 has a lattice structure similar to Al and small lattice misfits with Al, and it can be an effective nucleation core when it meets certain conditions.

Four‐Point Bending Tests at High Temperatures on Commercial MgO‐C Refractory Bricks with and Without Recyclate Considering Different Carbon Contents

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 10, 20 May 2026.
Four‐point bending tests are conducted in an argon atmosphere on commercial MgO‐C brick grades with and without MgO‐C recyclate from room temperature up to 1300 °C. No detrimental effect of the MgO‐C recyclates on bending strength is found. Instead, a decisive influence of the total carbon content is observed, with lower total carbon contents ...

V centers in MgAl2O4 spinels.

open access: yesPhysical review. B, Condensed matter, 1991
V centers induced by ionizing irradiation at 80 or 300 K in single-crystal and polycrystalline MgAl2O4 samples have been studied by use of electron paramagnetic resonance and optical absorption. Vt- and Vo2- centers, as a result of hole trapping at tetrahedral and octahedral cation vacancies, respectively, have been found to be responsible for two EPR ...
