Impact of Sustainable Binders Based on Lignin and Collagen on the Volume Stability and Mechanical Properties of MgO‐C Refractories with MgO‐C Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 10, 20 May 2026.
Collagen hydrolysate is evaluated as a sustainable binder for MgO‐C refractories. Its thermally induced cross‐linking and gas release lead to expansion and cracking in large bricks, but tailored batches with lignin, recyclates, or fine graphite improve the gas release while thermal treatment and stability.

Production, stability and properties of ultrafine MgAl2O4 (spinel) particles stabilized Mg–3Ca alloy foams

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
The present work reports the synthesis and mechanical behavior studies of Mg–3Ca alloy foams stabilized by ultrafine MgAl2O4 (spinel) particles. The MgAl2O4 particles was created in-situ in the Mg–3Ca alloy melt through the reaction of Mg, Al and O ...

Development of Sustainable MgO–C Refractories Using MgO–C Recyclates and a Novel Eco‐Friendly Fructose–Tannin Binder Crosslinked With Citric Acid

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 10, 20 May 2026.
This study develops sustainable MgO–C refractories using recycled materials and eco‐friendly fructose–tannin binders. The enhanced performance of citric acid as a cross‐linker and functional additives on mechanical and thermomechanical properties was examined. Characterization included strength tests, immersion trials, and microstructural and inclusion

Improvement of microstructure and mechanical property of Al–2Fe alloy though an in-situ reaction of Fe2O3 powder in Al–Mg melts

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Al–Fe based alloys exhibit excellent high heat-resistance property but suffer from low strength and hardness because the soft aluminum matrix is interrupted by coarse needle/flake-like Al3Fe phases.

Electrochemical determination of the Gibbs energy of formation of MgAl2O4

open access: yes, 1998
The standard Gibbs energy of formation of the spinel MgAl2O4 from component oxides, MgO and α-Al2O3, has been determined in the temperature range 900 to 1250 K using a solid-state cell incorporating single-crystal CaF2 as the solid electrolyte.

Microstructure evolution of GaN buffer layer on MgAl2O4 substrate

open access: yes, 1998
Microstructure of GaN buffer layer grown on (111)MgAl2O4 substrate by metalorganic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE) was studied by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). It has been observed that the early deposition of GaN buffer layer on the substrate at a

Exploring the stability of Fe2O3-MgAl2O4 oxygen storage materials for CO production from CO2

open access: yes, 2019
The stability of Fe2O3-MgAl2O4 oxygen storage materials (OSMs) was investigated over 1000 redox cycles using H-2 as reductant and CO2 as oxidant.

Crystal structure and chemical bonding of the high-pressure phase of MgAl2O4 from first-principles calculations

open access: yes, 2002
First-principles calcns. using d. functional theory and the pseudopotential method were performed for the crystal structure and phase relation of MgAl2O4 and the binary components (MgO and a-Al2O3). Calcns.

Photoluminescence and photometric studies of low temperature prepared red emitting MgAl2O4:Cr3+ nanophosphors for solid state displays

open access: yesJournal of Science: Advanced Materials and Devices, 2018
MgAl2O4:Cr3+ (0.01–0.11 mol) doped nanocrystalline powders were prepared by a combustion method at low temperature. The Scherer's method was used to estimate crystallite size and values were found to be in the range 20–30 nm and the same was confirmed by
