New Magnetite Reference Material for SIMS δ18O Measurements and a Study of Precision and Accuracy Due to Crystal Orientation Effects

open access: yesGeostandards and Geoanalytical Research, Volume 50, Issue 2, Page 391-406, June 2026.
Key Points A new magnetite reference material (PF21mt) is available for δ18O measurements by SIMS. Reproducibility of measurement results in two laboratories suggest orientation bias of ±2‰ (2s) at 20 keV. Repeatability improves to ±1‰ (2s) when using a 13 keV protocol, suggesting reduced orientation bias. In situ isotope ratio measurements provide the

Material removal and deformation mechanism in multiple nanoscratches of single crystal MgAl2O4

open access: yesMaterials & Design
Single crystal MgAl2O4 requires ultra-precision machining to achieve dimensional accuracy and surface quality due to its high hardness and brittleness. To investigate the effect of multi-abrasive scratch sequences on the material removal and deformation ...

Structural and magnetic anisotropy in the epitaxial FeV2O4 (110) spinel thin films

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2015
The epitaxial 200-nm-thick FeV2O4(110) films on (110)-oriented SrTiO3, LaAlO3 and MgAl2O4 substrates were fabricated for the first time by pulsed laser deposition, and the structural, magnetic, and magnetoresistance anisotropy were investigated ...

Chemical Equilibrium Abundances in Brown Dwarf and Extrasolar Giant Planet Atmospheres

open access: yes, 1998
We calculate detailed chemical abundance profiles for a variety of brown dwarf and extrasolar giant planet atmosphere models, focusing in particular on Gliese 229B, and derive the systematics of the changes in the dominant reservoirs of the major ...

Sonochemical preparation of high surface area MgAl2O4 spinel

open access: yesUltrasonics Sonochemistry, 2009
High surface area MgAl(2)O(4) has been synthesised by a sonochemical method. Two kinds of precursors were used, alkoxides and nitrates/acetates and in both cases nanostructured MgAl(2)O(4) was obtained. The effect of the addition of a surfactant during the sonication, cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide, was also investigated.

Magnetization and Anisotropy of Cobalt Ferrite Thin Films

open access: yes, 2017
The magnetization of thin films of cobalt ferrite frequently falls far below the bulk value of 455 kAm-1, which corresponds to an inverse cation distribution in the spinel structure with a significant orbital moment of about 0.6 muB that is associated ...

Tracing the development of dust around evolved stars: The case of 47 Tuc [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We observed mid-infrared (7.5-22 mum) spectra of AGB stars in the globular cluster 47 Tuc with the Spitzer telescope and find significant dust features of various types. Comparison of the characteristics of the dust spectra with the location of the stars
