Transport measurements on lateral MgB2/Fe/MgB2 junctions

Journal of Applied Physics, 2012
The magnetic anisotropy and transport properties of superconducting MgB2 thin films on MgO (100) substrates were studied. The films were prepared by rf/dc-magnetron cosputtering and with in situ annealing temperatures of 650 °C. The film orientation was measured by X-ray diffractometry, which revealed a c-axis orientation of the MgB2 films.

Contact resistance simulations and measurements of MgB2–MgB2 lap joints

Cryogenics, 2011
Abstract Resistive joints are found in many systems using superconductors. Joints are used to connect the superconductor to a normal conducting current terminal or to connect two superconductors, for example in pancake type windings. Knowing the resistance between the contacts is important in studying the heat balance of a superconducting system.

Multiple Andreev reflection in MgB2/MgO/MgB2 Josephson junctions

Applied Physics Letters, 2012
The current-voltage and conductance-voltage characteristics of MgB2/MgO/MgB2 junctions made with MgB2 electrodes grown by hybrid physical-chemical vapor deposition were systematically analyzed. In the junctions with different sizes and critical current densities, we found excess current and subharmonic gap structure indicative of multiple Andreev ...

Josephson effects in MgB2 /Thin Insulator/ MgB2 tunnel junction

Solid State Communications, 2009
Abstract The Josephson currents in MgB2/I/MgB2 tunnel junction for both c -axis and a b -plane orientation alignments are calculated by using the B-dG equation to derive the Andreev reflection coefficients at the interface. The differences between the insulating barrier strengths due to the differences in the interactions between the π

A record-high trapped field of 1.61 T in MgB2 bulk comprised of copper plates and soft iron yoke cylinder using pulsed-field magnetization

Superconductors Science and Technology, 2020
A trapped field of BT = 1.61 T was experimentally achieved at the central surface of an MgB2 bulk composite (60 mm in diameter and 20 mm in height) at 20 K by double pulsed-field magnetization (PFM) using a split-type coil.

Spark plasma sintering of bulk MgB2 and levitation force measurements

Superconductors Science and Technology, 2020
We present preliminary results suggesting that MgB2 is a superconductor that could be used in Maglev vehicles. For this purpose, we compare the levitation capability of MgB2 samples to those of YBCO bulks.

Comparison of electronic structures and mechanical properties of MgAlB4, AlB2 and MgB2 using first-principles calculations

, 2020
As a kind of ternary diboride ceramic phase, MgAlB4 can grow into whiskers via in situ reaction in aluminum matrix, which effectively solves the reinforcement dispersion and interface bonding problems in the preparation of the whiskers reinforced ...

Simultaneous enhancement of the thermoelectric and mechanical performance in one-step sintered n-type Bi2Te3-based alloys via a facile MgB2 doping strategy.

ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces, 2019
The Bi2Te3-based alloys have been commercialized for the applications of energy harvesting and refrigeration for decades. However, the commercial Bi2Te3-based alloys produced by zone-melting (ZM) method usually show poor mechanical strength and crack ...

Superconductivity in MgB2

Physica C: Superconductivity, 2003
Abstract We recently discovered that the intermetallic compound magnesium diboride (MgB 2 ) exhibits the highest superconducting transition temperature ( T c =39 K) of all the metallic superconductors. In this paper we report on the basic superconducting characteristics of MgB 2 and the current status of the research for the unanswered problem in ...
