Liver Transglutaminases and Vitamin-A Deficiency in Hairless Mice

Functional barrel cortex in ‘hairless’, nude mice

Although nude mice are not truly hairless, they demonstrate abnormal hair structure and growth patterns, which are related to their genetic state. Whereas wild-type mice are born with visible vibrissae, nude mice are distinguishable at birth by the lack of visible vibrissae, which do not appear until approximately postnatal day 6.

Skin photosensitization with topical hypericin in hairless mice

The response of hairless mice to staphylococcal epidermolytic toxin

SUMMARY A study of the effect of staphylococcal epidermolytic toxin in the progeny of Ahr × hrhr cross-bred mice revealed that hrhr mice were sensitive to the toxin at between 16 and 30 days of age. Such animals were more sensitive per g body weight than neonatal mice.

Spontaneous Hereditary Mutation for a Recurrent Hairless Condition in Mice

A SPONTANEOUS mutation has appeared in the thirty-first generation of a sib-mated control line in a radiation genetics programme being carried out at this laboratory. This mutation affects the hair coat and produces a hairless condition (Fig. 1) which appears intermittently in mutant mice. This communication provides a brief account of the mutation.

Mast cells in the skin of normal, hairless and athymic mice

The skin of congenitally athymic nu/nu mice is rich in mast cells which stain metachromatically, contain histamine and 5-hydroxytryptamine, and participate in the PCA reaction. Mast cells of athymic mice have thus the attributes of normal mast cells.

Mast cells and elastosis in ultraviolet‐irradiated hairless mice

Earlier studies of ultraviolet (UV) irradiated hairless mice have suggested a relation between elastosis and mast cells. To examine whether such a relation exists, we examined groups of hairless mice irradiated with equal doses of UV. The narrow UV bands had peaks at 292, 300, 307, 317 and 336 nm.
