Histamine-Induced Micro vascular Leakage in Pial Venules: Differences Between the SJL/J and BALB/c Inbred Strains of Mice

Journal of Neurotrauma, 1994
The actions of histamine on pial venule leaky site formation were measured intravitally in two inbred strains of mice (BALB/c and SJL/J). Pial venules were visualized using a cranial window microscopy technique, and microvascular leaky site formation was assessed visually using a fluorescein-dextran indicator.

[Biotransformation of mexidol in inbred BALB/C and C57BL/6 mice].

Eksperimental'naia i klinicheskaia farmakologiia, 2005
The pharmacokinetics and biotransformation of mexidol was studied in BALB/C and C57BL/6 mice. The blood plasma contains dealkylated metabolites, and the urine contains glucuronoconjugated derivatives of the drug. The process of glucuronoconjugation more intensively proceeds in C57BL/6 mice than in BALB/C mice.

Dopamine D1 and opioid receptor antagonist-induced reductions of fructose and saccharin intake in BALB/c and SWR inbred mice

Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior, 2015
Sugar and fat intake in rodents are mediated in part by brain dopamine (DA) and opioid neurotransmitter systems although important strain differences exist. Thus, whereas sucrose intake of BALB/c and SWR mice was reduced by DA D1 (SCH23390: SCH) receptor antagonism, opioid (naltrexone: NTX) receptor antagonism reduced intake only in BALB/c mice.

Analysis of Social Process in Two Inbred Strains of Male Mice: A Predominance of Contact-Based Investigation in BALB/c Mice

Neuroscience, 2018
Developing mouse models for social communication deficits requires a better understanding of the nature of social investigatory processes between mice. Mice use different investigatory strategies based on a possibility of contacts with social sources.

[The determination of the oxidation phenotype in inbred C57Bl/6 and BALB/c mice].

Biulleten' eksperimental'noi biologii i meditsiny, 1991
Antipyrine oxidation was studied in C57BL/6 and BALB/c inbred mice. It was found that C57BL/6 are weak oxidant but BALB/c are strong oxidants of antipyrine. Animals F1 hybrids inherited the high capacity of antipyrine oxidation.

Genetically inbred Balb/c mice differ from outbred Swiss Webster mice on discrete measures of sociability: relevance to a genetic mouse model of autism spectrum disorders

Autism Research, 2011
AbstractThe Balb/c mouse is proposed as a model of human disorders with prominent deficits of sociability, such as autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) that may involve pathophysiological disruption of NMDA receptor‐mediated neurotransmission. A standard procedure was used to measure sociability in 8‐week‐old male genetically inbred Balb/c and outbred ...

Attenuated liver progenitor (oval) cell and fibrogenic responses to the choline deficient, ethionine supplemented diet in the BALB/c inbred strain of mice

Journal of Hepatology, 2007
Liver regeneration following chronic injury is associated with inflammation, the proliferation of liver progenitor (oval) cells and fibrosis. Previous studies identified interferon-gamma as a key mediator of oval cell proliferation. Interferon-gamma is known to regulate Th1 cell activities during immune challenge.

Involvement of apoptosis and autophagy in reducing mouse hepatoma ML-1 cell growth in inbred BALB/c mice by bacterial fermented soybean products

Food and Chemical Toxicology, 2011
Followed by the results of our previous in vitro report (Food Chem. Toxicol., 2007), the efficacy of the soybean fermentation products containing live bacteria (SCB) was demonstrated using a syngeneic animal model. Murine HBV-related hepatoma ML-1 cells, derived from inbred animals and tumorigenic in BALB/c mice, were implanted subcutaneously to the ...

The infection characteristics of the antelope schistosomes, Schistosoma margrebowiei and S. leiperi, in inbred BALB/c mice and in Mastomys coucha

Journal of Helminthology, 1994
AbstractDetailed studies were carried out to assess the infection characteristics of the antelope schistosomes in BALB/c mice and Mastomys coucha. Both schistosome species reached sexual maturity in these hosts. However, they differed markedly in terms of egg production rates and preferred sites of tissue egg deposition. Tissue egg deposition commenced

Genetically inbred Balb/C mice are more sensitive to an effect of flurazepam and more resistant to an effect of stress than a genetically outbred mouse strain

Epilepsy & Behavior, 2009
The inbred Balb/c mouse strain was more sensitive than the outbred NIH Swiss mouse to flurazepam's ability to antagonize electrically precipitated seizures. In prior work, a reduction in flurazepam's antiseizure efficacy was not observed 24h after forcing Balb/c mice to swim for up to 10 min in ambient temperature water.
