Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) strains expressing F5 (K99) fimbriae cause diarrhoea in the young animal through adhesion to specific sialoglycolipids of the small intestine surface. We studied here an infant mouse diarrhoea model, as CBA infant mice are susceptible to F5-positive ETEC infection, whereas DBA/2 ones are resistant.

Changes of organ indices of CBA/Ca inbred mice as function of age.
Zeitschrift fur Gerontologie, 1989Weight changes of seven organs: brain, heart, lungs, liver, spleen, small intestine, and kidneys, were analyzed during aging of male CBA/Ca inbred mice. Data were collected as absolute organ weights, organ weights related to body, as well as brain weights.

Vulnerability of the cochlea to noise-induced permanent threshold shifts (NIPTS) was examined in young adult (1-2 months) and 'middle-aged' (5-7 months) CBA/CaJ, C57BL/6J, and BALB/cJ inbred mice. For each age and strain, a dose-response paradigm was applied, whereby groups of up to 12 animals were exposed to intense broadband noise (110 dB SPL) for ...

[Growth and development peculiarities of testicles in inbred mice lines PT and CBA/Lac].
Ontogenez, 2013The goal of this study is to perform a comparative genetic investigation of testicle development during the postpubescence period (from days 70 to 90 of life) in the inbred mice lines PT and CBA/Lac. Interlinear differences in the body and testicular weight, serum testosterone concentration, number of epididymal spermatozoa, area of testicular ...

Schistosoma mansoni infections of CBA/J and C57BL/6 mice provided the hosts with partial protection against reinfection by S. mansoni cercariae. The level of protection, assayed by perfusion 21-25 days after challenge, varied over the course of infection. After patency the degree of resistance observed in CBA/J mice was related to the adult worm burden

SummaryAdult CBA/J mice regularly showed a delayed response to intracerebral inoculation with LCM virus indicating an impaired cellular reactivity toward this agent.Viral antigen titers of spleens and kidneys were about equally high in congenitally infected CBA/J and NMRI mice sacrificed at different age levels, but the former animals, unlike those of ...

Auditory brainstem function of the F1 offspring of the cross of CBA/CaJ and AU/SsJ inbred mice.
Audiology : official organ of the International Society of Audiology, 1992Inbred strains of laboratory mice have several distinct advantages as models for examining conditions that influence the human auditory system, but the CBA/J mouse which has most often been used as a normal model has recently been found to have several disadvantages.

A hypothesis on the genetic determination of periodic fluctuations of the sensitivity to the mutagen thioTEPA in successive inbred generations of mice has been earlier put forward. This study was the initial stage of testing this hypothesis. The mouse strain CBA/LacY was divided into two substrains, which differed in the rate of generation change. As a

Female mice from two inbred strains CBA/Kw and KE differ markedly in fertility. The gametes of females from KE strain are of poorer quality than those of CBA/Kw. We analyzed the number of oocytes per ovary in KE and CBA/Kw mice aged 5, 25, 90, 180 and 360 days. The ovaries were dissected and processed according to the routine histological methods.
