Survival, immune responses and tissue cyst production in outbred (Swiss white) and inbred (CBA/Ca) strains of mice experimentally infected with Neospora caninum tachyzoites [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinary Research, 2004
The present work compared inbred (CBA/Ca) and outbred (Swiss white) strains of mice for their capacity to cope with a Neospora caninum infection and to consistently produce tissue cysts. In each experiment Swiss white and CBA/Ca mice were given three different doses of NC-1 tachyzoites.

An experimental assessment of in silico haplotype association mapping in laboratory mice

open access: yesBMC Genetics, 2009
Background To assess the utility of haplotype association mapping (HAM) as a quantitative trait locus (QTL) discovery tool, we conducted HAM analyses for red blood cell count (RBC) and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL) in mice.

Modulation of brain β-endorphin concentration by the specific part of the Y chromosome in mice.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
BackgroundSeveral studies in animal models suggest a possible effect of the specific part of the Y-chromosome (Y(NPAR)) on brain opioid, and more specifically on brain β-endorphin (BE).

Genetic factors regulating lung vasculature and immune cell functions associate with resistance to pneumococcal infection.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Streptococcus pneumoniae is an important human pathogen responsible for high mortality and morbidity worldwide. The susceptibility to pneumococcal infections is controlled by as yet unknown genetic factors.

Differential Effects on Survival, Humoral Immune Responses and Brain Lesions in Inbred BALB/C, CBA/CA, and C57BL/6 Mice Experimentally Infected withNeospora caninumTachyzoites [PDF]

open access: yesISRN Parasitology, 2013
C57BL/6, BALB/c, and CBA/Ca mouse strains with different MHC-I haplotypes were compared with respect to susceptibility toNeospora caninuminfection. Groups of 5 mice received , , or tachyzoites of the NC-Liverpool isolate by intraperitoneal injection and were observed for disease symptoms.

Immunobiological properties of circulating Bordetella pertussis strains: Candidate strains for production of pertussis vaccines

open access: yesБиопрепараты: Профилактика, диагностика, лечение
INTRODUCTION. One of the reasons for increased pertussis cases is the pathogen adapting to the existing collective immunity formed under conditions of vaccine prophylaxis.

The comparison of primordial germ cell populations in embryos of KE and CBA inbred strains of mice.

open access: yesFolia histochemica et cytobiologica, 1998
The changes in primordial germ cell (PGC) populations were compared in embryos of two inbred strains of mice-KE and CBA/Kw on 11, 12, 13 and 14 day of foetal life. The number of PGCs did not differ in 11-day embryos of both strains. In 12-day CBA/Kw embryos the proliferation rate of PGCs was higher and the number of PGC was significantly higher than in

Effect of cadmium chloride on the ovulation and structure of ovary in the inbred KP and CBA mice strains.

open access: yesFolia histochemica et cytobiologica, 1986
A single dose of cadmium chloride (2.2 mumol/100 g of body weight) brought about in the sensitive KP strain alterations of the ovarian structure and disturbances in the ovarian cycle manifested by a prolongation of diestrus. Following cadmium administration and increase in the amount of atretic follicles, especially those showing stages 1I and 2II of ...
