With the increasing number of publications in which nude mice are used, there is a growing list of apparent discrepencies. To avoid such problems, we propose the use of nude mouse populations with a large gene pool which will leave, if possible, the nude allele as the only homozygote. All phenotypic characters consistently different between nu/nu, nu/+

Oral leukoplakia transplanted to nude mice
European Journal of Oral Sciences, 1981Abstract – Thirtyi‐eight biospsies of homogeneous oral leukoplakias were transplanted to subcutaneous sites of mude nice and protected from overlysing curaneous tissue by Millipore® filters. The transplants were recovered after 21 d with a rate of successful recovery of 66%.

Heterotransplants of Human Tumors in Nude Mice
2015A short review of 10 years experience with the use of thymus-aplastic nude mice in onocology is given. All major human tumor types, e.g. lung, breast, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, malignant melanomas are now established and serially grown in nude mice.

θ-bearing Lymphocytes in Nude Mice
Nature, 1973MICE homozygous for the mutation nude (nu/nu) are hairless1 and deficient in thymus2–4 and thymus-derived (T)5,6 lymphocytes. They are generally referred to as being athymic and are widely used in immunology as a source of B lymphocytes uncontaminated with T cells, although there is evidence that the thymus is present, but is small and dysplastic3,4 ...

THE GROWTH OF HUMAN HAIR IN NUDE MICE
Dermatologic Clinics, 1996The author reviews published papers on human hair growth in nude mice. There is evidence from various sources indicating that grafting of human scalp onto nude mice does not modify significantly morphogenesis, hair follicle structure and function, and composition of the newly grown hair fiber.

Hair Growth Pattern in Nude Mice
Cells Tissues Organs, 2001Nude mice are not bald but instead show an ‘abortive’ reduced hair growth on different sites of the integument. An albino (NMRI-nu) and a pigmented (C57BL/6-nu) strain of nude mice were examined as to whether the regional distribution pattern of this anagen hair proliferation is subject to the same ontogenetic development as in hairy mice.
