Unbiased transcriptomic analyses reveal distinct effects of immune deficiency in CNS function with and without injury

open access: yesProtein & Cell, 2018
The mammalian central nervous system (CNS) is considered an immune privileged system as it is separated from the periphery by the blood brain barrier (BBB).

Involvement of ILC1-like innate lymphocytes in human autoimmunity, lessons from alopecia areata

open access: yeseLife, 2023
Here, we have explored the involvement of innate lymphoid cells-type 1 (ILC1) in the pathogenesis of alopecia areata (AA), because we found them to be significantly increased around lesional and non-lesional HFs of AA patients.

Rejection of Experimental Hodgkins Lymphoma by T-cells Engineered with a CD19 Chimeric Antigen Receptor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
T cells engineered to express chimeric receptors combining an external antibody binding domain with the CD3ζ T cell receptor (TCR) internal domain for triggering cell activation are being used for immunotherapeutic targeting of tumour cells in a non-HLA ...

Mechanically Spatio‐Chimeric Fibrin Assembly Enables Vascular‐Integrated Muscle Reconstruction for Volumetric Muscle Loss Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
SPARC (spatio‐chimeric, plasma‐based, anisotropic, and shear‐responsive construct) that integrates myogenic and vascular microenvironments within a single construct. The dual‐modulus matrix directs aligned myotube formation and endothelial network development, enabling a vascularized muscle implant that seamlessly anastomoses with host tissue and ...

SCID/NOD mice model for 5-FU induced intestinal mucositis: Safety and effects of probiotics as therapy

open access: yesPediatrics and Neonatology, 2019
Background: For chemotherapy patients, intestinal mucositis is a frequent complication. Previously, we evaluated the beneficial effect of oral probiotics in 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) induced mucositis in BALB/c mice.

NSG Mice Facilitate ex vivo Characterization of Ewing Sarcoma Lung Metastasis Using the PuMA Model

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2021
Ewing sarcoma (EwS) is a highly malignant bone and soft tissue tumor primarily affecting children and young adults. While most patients initially respond well to conventional front-line therapy, frequent metastasis results in poor 5-year overall survival

Delivery of Pleckstrin‐Homology Domains Suppresses PI3K/Akt Signaling and Breast Cancer Metastasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Current therapies curb tumor growth but not metastasis. Obscurin, a giant metastasis suppressor lost in breast cancer, restrains PI3K/Akt signaling but is impractical to restore. We deploy a mini‐obscurin, comprising the obscurin‐PH‐domain, which sequesters PI3K‐p85, potently suppressing invasion and metastasis.

Generation and Characterization of Severe Combined Immunodeficiency Rats

open access: yesCell Reports, 2012
Severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) mice, the most widely used animal model of DNA-PKcs (Prkdc) deficiency, have contributed enormously to our understanding of immunodeficiency, lymphocyte development, and DNA-repair mechanisms, and they are ideal ...

Comparative Transcriptome Analyses of Schistosoma japonicum Derived From SCID Mice and BALB/c Mice: Clues to the Abnormality in Parasite Growth and Development

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
Schistosomiasis, caused by the parasitic flatworms called schistosomes, remains one of the most prevailing parasitic diseases in the world. The prodigious oviposition of female worms after maturity is the main driver of pathology due to infection, yet ...

Requirement of endogenous tumor necrosis factor/cachectin for recovery from experimental peritonitis [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
By intrasplenic immunization we raised a rat mAb (mAb V1q; IgG2a, kappa) with a potent neutralizing activity against natural mouse TNF (1 microgram/ml mAb V1q/100 U/ml TNF). mAb V1q was used to study the role of endogenous TNF in experimental peritonitis
