Pretransitional behavior in a water-DDAB-5CB microemulsion close to the demixing transition. Evidence for intermicellar attraction mediated by paranematic fluctuations

open access: yes, 2005
We present a study of a water-in-oil microemulsion in which surfactant coated water nanodroplets are dispersed in the isotropic phase of the thermotropic liquid crystal 5CB. As the temperature is lowered below the isotropic to nematic phase transition of

Iridium Oxide Inverse Opal Anodes with Tailored Porosity for Efficient PEM Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The synthesis of Iridium‐based Inverse Opals (Ir‐IO) is reported as electrocatalyst for Proton exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEM‐WE). Using the developed protocol it produces highly porous materials consisting either of metallic, oxidic Iridium or a combination thereof with large surface areas.

Interfaces in Diblocks: A Study of Miktoarm Star Copolymers

open access: yes, 2004
We study AB$_n$ miktoarm star block copolymers in the strong segregation limit, focussing on the role that the AB interface plays in determining the phase behavior.

Nanofillers Reinforcing Biopolymer Composites for Sustainable Food Packaging Applications: A State‐of‐the‐Art Review

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biopolymers are sustainable, biodegradable alternatives to petroleum‐based plastics for food packaging. Its adoption is often limited by poor mechanical strength, barrier properties, and improved thermal stability through the incorporation of nanofillers.

Feasibility study of naphthalene removal: Naphthalene solubilization in aqueous solutions of a triblock copolymer of ethylene oxide and 1,2-butylene oxide, E64B20E64 [PDF]

open access: yesSongklanakarin Journal of Science and Technology (SJST), 2003
Block copolymer E64B20E64, where E denotes oxyethylene, OCH2CH2, B denotes oxybutylene, OCH2CH (C2H5), and the subscripts denote number-average block lengths in repeat units, was synthesized by sequential anionic polymerization.

Coarse-grained simulation of amphiphilic self-assembly [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We present a computer simulation study of amphiphilic self assembly performed using a computationally efficient single-site model based on Gay-Berne and Lennard-Jones particles. Molecular dynamics simulations of these systems show that free self-assembly

Differential Compartmentalization of Enzymatic Reactions for Lactate Signaling Across Protocells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Two populations of protocells consisting of giant unilamellar vesicles containing active species and distinct artificial organelles are competent of collective behavior by mimicking production, intercellular communication, and detection of the bioinspired signal molecule lactate. Enzymatic cascade reactions within artificial organelles demonstrate that

Solution NMR Studies on the Orientation of Membrane-Bound Peptides and Proteins by Paramagnetic Probes

open access: yesMolecules, 2013
Many peptides and proteins are attached to or immersed in a biological membrane. In order to understand their function not only the structure but also their topology in the membrane is important.

New generation of electrochemical immunoassay based on polymeric nanoparticles for early detection of breast cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Screening and early diagnosis are the key factors for the reduction of mortality rate and treatment cost of cancer. Therefore, sensitive and selective methods that can reveal the low abundance of cancer biomarkers in a biological sample are always ...

Micellization and mixed micellization of alkylxylenesulfonates — a calorimetric study

open access: yesColloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects, 1993
Abstract The effects of the position of sulfonate and of methyl groups on the aromatic ring of isomerically pure alkylxylenesulfonates on micellization and mixed micellization have been investigated using microcalorimetry and surface tension measurements.
