Trypanosomal MICOS Is Assembled on Non‐Respiring Mitochondrial Crista Precursors and Associates With Two Integral Microproteins

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, EarlyView.
The mitochondrial membrane‐shaping machinery MICOS is assembled surprisingly early during the life cycle of Trypanosoma brucei, before the mitochondrion acquires its mature architecture or full respiratory capacity. Our study also identifies two previously uncharacterized proteins associated with MICOS, providing new insight into the early organization

Engineered Identity: Albanian Nationalism and the Limits of Established Nationalism Theories

open access: yesNations and Nationalism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article analyses the development of Albanian nationalism as a test case for assessing the explanatory reach of three major approaches to the study of nationalism: modernist, constructivist and historical‐comparative. Rather than privileging a single theoretical framework, the article places these approaches in dialogue, treating them as ...

The Oxidation Status of Mic19 Regulates MICOS Assembly [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular and Cellular Biology, 2015
The function of mitochondria depends on the proper organization of mitochondrial membranes. The morphology of the inner membrane is regulated by the recently identified mitochondrial contact site and crista organizing system (MICOS) complex. MICOS mutants exhibit alterations in crista formation, leading to mitochondrial dysfunction.

Canonical and non‐canonical functions of proteins regulating mitochondrial dynamics in mammalian physiology

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Mitochondria are highly dynamic organelles that continuously remodel their architecture through coordinated cycles of fusion and fission. This review examines the four key GTPases that orchestrate mitochondrial dynamics in mammals: MFN1, MFN2, OPA1, and DRP1.

Behavioral and ecological interactions between reintroduced golden lion tamarins (Leontopithecus rosalia Linnaeus, 1766) and introduced marmosets (Callithrix spp, Linnaeus, 1758) in Brazil's Atlantic Coast forest fragments

open access: yesBrazilian Archives of Biology and Technology, 2006
Marmosets (Callithrix spp.) have been introduced widely in areas within Rio de Janeiro state assigned for the reintroduction of the endangered golden lion tamarin (Leontopithecus rosalia).
