Parvimonas micra is associated with tumour immune profiles in molecular subtypes of colorectal cancer

open access: yes, 2022
The importance of the tumour microbiome in different aspects of colorectal cancer (CRC) has been increasingly recognised, but many questions remain. The aim of this study was to explore the effect of specific CRC associated microbes on the tumour immune ...

Parvimonas micra spondylodiscitis with psoas abscess

open access: yesBMJ Case Reports, 2019
Parvimonas micra (P. micra) is a Gram-positive anaerobic cocci, normally found in the oral cavity and rarely causes severe infections. We describe a rare clinical presentation of P. micra as spondylodiscitis and psoas abscess with haematogenous spread in an adult patient. MRI lumbar spine detected L2 and L3 spondylodiscitis.

Cost‐effectiveness of Micra™ VR leadless pacemaker in patients with bradycardia and atrial fibrillation in Australia

open access: yesJournal of Arrhythmia
Background Micra™ VR Transcatheter Pacing System (Micra VR) is a single‐chamber transcatheter leadless pacemaker. Absence of leads and subcutaneous pocket reduces or completely eliminates the risk of complications associated with the conventional ...

Successful Extensive Pulsed Field Ablation for Atrial Fibrillation Without Leadless Pacemaker Interference

open access: yesJournal of Arrhythmia, Volume 42, Issue 5, October 2026.
Although Pulsed field ablation (PFA) has demonstrated efficacy for atrial fibrillation, its safety in patients with leadless pacemaker remains uncertain. This case suggests that extensive PFA involving persistent left superior vena cava, superior vena cava, and left atrial posterior wall can be safely performed without device interference.

Antibiotic Resistance and Biofilm‐Forming Capacity of Oral Biofilm Bacteria in Patients With Periodontitis and Healthy Individuals

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, October 2026.
Key finding: Antimicrobial resistance was common across all groups and associated with biofilm‐forming capacity, an association that remains observational and species‐confounded. ABSTRACT This study aimed to analyse antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in bacterial isolates from subgingival biofilms of patients with periodontitis and supragingival biofilms ...

Gastrointestinal Microbiome Dysbiosis in Cancer Development: Mechanisms and Biomarker Potential

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, October 2026.
Dysbiosis of the gastrointestinal microbiome plays a role in carcinogenesis by inducing chronic inflammation, DNA damage, and activation of signaling pathways such as NF‐κB, STAT3, and Wnt/β‐catenin. Microorganisms such as Helicobacter pylori, Fusobacterium nucleatum, and Bacteroides fragilis promote the development of gastrointestinal tumors through ...

Septic pulmonary embolism associated with periodontal disease: a case report and literature review

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2019
Background Periodontal disease, including periodontitis, has been reported to be a rare cause of septic pulmonary embolism (SPE). It is however extremely difficult to isolate the causative pathogen of periodontal disease-associated SPE from blood ...
