Programmable directed micro-assembly

Novel Patterning Technologies 2021, 2021
We aim to develop the capability to rapidly sort, place, and orient micro objects into custom positions and transfer them to a final substrate eventually at costs similar to laser printers assembling toner particles onto paper. We are using programmable directed electrostatic parallel control to move particles from random to ordered patterns.

Stepwise into micro-assembly

1997 8th International Conference on Advanced Robotics. Proceedings. ICAR'97, 2002
The decreasing size of mechanical components leads to a growing demand for suitable micro-assembly technology. However, there is still an enormous research potential given the required high assembly accuracies and the special problems encountered during the assembly of miniature components.

Sensorguided micro-assembly

Microsystem Technologies, 2004
Within this paper a concept for optimising a sensorguided high-precision assembly process is presented. The concept views the reduction of positioning time by parallizing the measurement and the movement process. After the introduction of the concept and theoretical aspects, an experimental system for implementation is presented.

Micro-assembly

2017
The trend toward miniaturisation of the last decade has caused a real revolution in the manufacturing of many products and systems in several fields, trying to reduce volume and weight, and integrate more functions in a smaller space. Besides the various manufacturing techniques presented in the previous chapters of the book, growing interest has been ...

Telepresence as a Solution to Manual Micro-Assembly

CIRP Annals, 2004
Abstract The progressive miniaturization and customization of today's products has lead to increased demand for manual micro-assembly systems. Telepresence technologies provide a promising solution to manual micro-assembly through overcoming scaling barriers and achieving high accuracies, while offering flexibility and an intuitive human-controlled ...

An Advanced Collaborative Framework for Micro Assembly

2007 IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering, 2007
This paper discusses the development of an advanced information modeling approach linked to the use of virtual and physical resources to support the rapid assembly of micro devices. An enterprise (engineering) modeling language (eEML) is used to create this information model.

Chiplet Micro-Assembly Printer

2019 IEEE 69th Electronic Components and Technology Conference (ECTC), 2019
A deterministic, directed, parallel electrostatic assembly and transfer process is being developed to arrange chips for electronics applications. Singulated chips 10 um - 200 um in size and initially in solution, are sorted, transported and oriented to form programmed patterns.

Information Centric Frameworks for Micro Assembly

2011
This paper outlines an information centric framework involving cyber architectures and virtual reality simulation resources for micro devices assembly. Such a framework lends itself to cyber physical paradigms which hold significant potential in todays distributed collaborative engineering environments.

Micro assembly injection moulding

Microsystem Technologies, 2006
Injection moulding is established as one of the most common manufacturing processes of thermoplastics due to its high degree of automation and the short cycle times. Micro injection moulding is a rapidly growing technology that allows for the efficient production of very complex micro parts in high series.

A 2-DOF manipulator for micro-assembly in a minifactory

2016 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Biomimetics (ROBIO), 2016
This paper presents a new 2-DOF “SMACbot” manipulator which can cooperate with a 2-DOF planar “courier” robot to perform precise assembly tasks within a minifactory. The SMACbot manipulator augments the function of an off-the-shelf rotary/linear actuator from SMAC Corporation.
