Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Measuring Bone Volume at Multiple Densities by Micro-computed Tomography
Bone strength is controlled by both bone mass, and the organization and quality of the bone material. The current standard method for measuring bone mass in mouse and rat studies is micro-computed tomography. This method typically uses a single threshold

Optimizing imaging of the rat pulmonary microvasculature by micro‐computed tomography [PDF]
Micro‐computed tomography (micro‐CT) is used in pre‐clinical research to generate high‐resolution three‐dimensional (3D) images of organs and tissues. When combined with intravascular contrast agents, micro‐CT can provide 3D visualization and quantification of vascular networks in many different organs. However, the lungs present a particular challenge

Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Alumina: Effects of Scanning Strategies on External and Internal Defects
This study investigates how scanning strategies affect pure alumina in laser powder bed fusion. Linear 45° scanning yields uniform surfaces but high porosity, while the island‐concentric strategy provides higher density with through‐holes favorable for infiltration. Findings highlight pathways toward optimizing defect‐free alumina parts.

Looking deep into nature: A review of micro-computed tomography in biomimicry [PDF]
Albert Einstein once said "look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better". Looking deep into nature has in the last few years become much more achievable through the use of high-resolution X-ray micro-computed tomography (microCT). The non-destructive nature of microCT, combined with three-dimensional visualization and analysis,

Use of Micro Computed Tomography in Prosthetic Dentistry
Today, the use of micro-computed tomography is becoming widespread in almost every field of dental research. When the national review articles on micro-computed tomography are examined, it is seen that the focus is on endodontic and surgical dental applications.

Planar Solid‐State Nanopores Toward Scalable Nanofluidic Integration Based on CMOS Technology
We present a scalable silicon‐based fabrication strategy for planar solid‐state nanopores to enable their integration with complex nanofluidic systems. Prototype devices demonstrate normal voltage‐current characteristics, good noise performance, and appreciable streaming currents. Our CMOS‐compatible fabrication process offers precise geometric control
