Classification of microcalcifications using micro-CT

SPIE Proceedings, 2013
Microcalcifications are tiny spots of calcium deposit that often occur in female breasts. Microcalcifications are common in healthy woman, but they often are an early sign of breast cancer. On a mammogram; the current standard of care for breast screening; calcifications appear as tiny white dots.

Artifacts in Micro-CT

2019
The use of micro-CT in medicine and engineering is getting quite popular in the research field. Micro-CT and its applications in dentistry, medicine, tissue engineering, aerospace engineering, geology, and material and civil engineering are a growing demand. Along with this demand, challenges with micro-CT imaging also come together especially in terms

Cone-beam reconstruction for Micro-CT

Proceedings IEEE International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging, 2003
X-ray micro-CT has been a focus in the CT/Micro-CT Lab, the University of Iowa. In this paper, some recent progress we made on cone-beam micro-CT is described. First, we address approximation reconstruction using Feldkamp-type algorithms with multiple X-ray sources and displaced detector configurations.

Evaluation of bone scaffolds by micro-CT

Osteoporosis International, 2011
This paper reviews the possibilities offered by X-ray micro-CT in bone tissue engineering. This technique provides a fast, nondestructive, and 3D quantification of bone scaffolds, bone ingrowth, and microvascularization. Synchrotron radiation absorption and phase micro-CT offer additional advantages to image newly formed bone in bioceramic scaffolds ...

Assessment of bone quality using micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) and synchrotron micro-CT

Journal of Bone and Mineral Metabolism, 2005
The latest micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) can provide ultrahigh-resolution images with resolution of less than 10 microm. Geometric three-dimensional (3-D) parameters, including the orientation, shape, and connectivity of trabeculae, are particularly helpful in understanding complex 3-D structure.

Micro-CT study of the human cochlear aqueduct

Surgical and Radiologic Anatomy, 2018
The anatomic structure of the cochlear aqueduct (CA) in human temporal bone specimens was observed using micro-computed tomography (CT).Micro-CT scanning of 18-µm-thick slices was performed on 30 slides of human temporal bone specimens to observe the CA structure and its relationship with its surroundings.

In Vivo Imaging of MSCT and Micro-CT: a Comparison

RöFo - Fortschritte auf dem Gebiet der Röntgenstrahlen und der bildgebenden Verfahren, 2009
To evaluate the potential of MSCT and a novel AmicroCT system to assess the volume of malignant brain tumors in rats compared to histology.Fourteen rats underwent stereotactic implantation of GFP-marked F 98-glioma cells. On day 10 after implantation, animals received double-dose contrast-enhanced AmicroCT and MSCT imaging using Iomeprol.

Fundamentals of Micro-CT Imaging

2019
This chapter briefly describes the fundamentals of micro-CT. The sections will briefly describe principles of micro-computed tomography, reconstruction to image, acquisition, and creation of acquisition data. In the following sections, micro-CT components, tube-based micro-CT systems, and synchrotron micro-CT techniques are covered.
