A New Method for the Prediction of Micro-Milling Tool Breakage

Volume 1: Processes, 2017
Micro-milling tool breakage has become a bottleneck for the development of micro-milling technology. A new method to predict micro-milling tool breakage based on theoretical model is presented in this paper. Based on the previously built micro-milling force model, the bending stress of the micro-milling cutter caused by the distributed load along the ...

Analysis of tool deflection in micro milling of graphite electrodes

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2013
In this paper, the tool deflection is first analyzed analytically, based on a four-section cantilever beam representation of the tool. Contributions of different sections of the tool to total tool displacement are quantified. Then the influence of cutting parameters (width of cut, depth of cut, and feed per tooth) on tool deflection are investigated ...

Method of precise auto tool setting for micro milling

Transactions of Tianjin University, 2011
Based on microscope and image processing, a new method of auto tool setting for micro milling was presented. Firstly, a realtime image of tool setting area was obtained by microscope and CCD camera, then image processing was carried out on this image and the gap between the tool and workpiece was calculated.
