Advances in micro milling: From tool fabrication to process outcomes

International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 2021
Abstract Micro milling cutters or micro mills are unique and important micro tools for fabricating miniaturised devices with sufficient geometrical and dimensional accuracy and machined surface integrity. Micro milling cutters, compared to conventional macro tools, have significantly different material removal mechanisms.

Design and manufacturing of micro milling tools

Microsystem Technologies, 2008
The actual geometrical design of micro milling tools has been adopted from macro tools, assuming that the effects during the milling process are analogical. Experience has also proved that micro tools respond to influences in a very different way than macro tools do. So it is very important to achieve a comprehensive understanding of the entire process

Mechanics of micro-milling with round edge tools

CIRP Annals, 2011
Abstract This paper presents analytical prediction of micro-milling forces from constitutive model of the material and friction coefficient. The chip formation process is predicted with a slip-line field model which considers the strain hardening, strain-rate and temperature effects on the flow stress of the material.
