Spatial Ecology of the Human Tongue Dorsum Microbiome

open access: yesCell Reports, 2020
Summary: A fundamental question in microbial ecology is how microbes are spatially organized with respect to each other and their host. A test bed for examining this question is the tongue dorsum, which harbors a complex and important microbial community.

Nutrient optimization for indigenous microbial consortia of a Bhagyam oil field: MEOR studies

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2023
The microbial enhanced oil recovery (MEOR) method is an eco-friendly and economical alternative technology. The technology involves a variety of uncertainties, and its success depends on controlling microbial growth and metabolism. This study is one of a

Populasi Bakteri dan Jamur pada Rizosfer Caisim (Brassica Juncea L.) yang Ditanam di Tanah Dikontaminasi Insektisida Organoklorin Setelah Aplikasi Konsorsia Mikroba dan Kompos [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Organochlorine insecticide was banned for agriculture but nowadays its residue was still found in some agricultural soil. One of ways to lowering organochlorine residue in soil is by used of degrading-organochlorine microbial consortia accompanied with ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Ratiometric control for differentiation of cell populations endowed with synthetic toggle switches

open access: yes, 2019
We consider the problem of regulating by means of external control inputs the ratio of two cell populations. Specifically, we assume that these two cellular populations are composed of cells belonging to the same strain which embeds some bistable memory ...

Dual‐Layer Living Hydrogel Enables On‐Demand Delivery of Phages and Probiotics for Synergistic Wound Infection Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A dual‐layer living hydrogel, ProΦGel, integrates bacteriophages and probiotics for synergistic wound infection therapy. The outer gelatin‐based matrix releases phages on demand in response to P. aeruginosa infections, while inner alginate beads sustain probiotic delivery.

Biokinetics Of microbial consortia using biogenic sulfur as a novel electron donor for sustainable denitrification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In this study, the biokinetics of autotrophic denitrification with biogenic S0 (ADBIOS) for the treatment of nitrogen pollution in wastewaters were investigated. The used biogenic S0, a by-product of gas desulfurization, was an elemental microcrystalline

Eutectozymes as Soft Hybrid Materials for Advanced Biocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Eutectozymes are sustainable hybrid materials that embed a GOx–HRP cascade within hydrophobic eutectogels featuring a dual supramolecular–covalent network. This architecture preserves native enzyme structure and stability, enables efficient heterogeneous biocatalysis in aqueous media, and positions eutectogels as robust platforms for next‐generation ...
