Flax Composites With Improved Interfacial Strength Through Microbially Induced Mineral Precipitation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A bio‐inspired biomineralization strategy introduces an additional hierarchy to flax fiber composites. By controlling microbe‐mediated mineral particle deposition through tuned salt concentrations, stress transfer within the natural fiber composite is enhanced.

The evolutionary ecology of model microbial communities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
textThe biological world is complex. Communities contain a multitude of interacting species, while populations contain extensive genetic variation. How much complexity must one consider to understand patterns and processes of interest?

Toward understanding, managing, and protecting microbial ecosystems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Microbial communities are at the very basis of life on earth, catalyzing biogeochemical reactions driving global nutrient cycles. However, unlike for plants and animals, microbial diversity is not on the biodiversity–conservation agenda.

Lab‐in‐a‐Tube System Integrating Hierarchically Wrinkled Electrodes and DNAzyme‐Functionalized Beads for Diagnosis of Clostridioides difficile Infection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The point‐of‐care diagnosis of Clostridioides difficile infection remains challenging due to reliance on slow culture and amplification‐based methods. A lab‐in‐a‐tube electrochemical biosensor integrating DNAzymes, antifouling magnetic beads, and a hierarchically structured flow cell enables amplification‐ and culture‐free detection directly in stool ...

Comparative Study of Chlorhexidine-Loaded Microneedle Patches vs Gels in Local Periodontal Therapy

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy and Bioallied Sciences
Background: Periodontitis, a chronic inflammatory disease, requires effective local antimicrobial therapy. Chlorhexidine (CHX) is a gold-standard antimicrobial, but conventional gel delivery faces limitations in sustained release and pocket penetration ...
