The impact of Zero-valent Iron Nanoparticles upon Soil Microbial Communities is Context Dependent [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Purpose Nanosized zero valent iron (nZVI) is an effective land remediation tool, but there remains little information regarding its impact upon and interactions with the soil microbial community.

Developmental and Epileptic Encephalopathy due to Biallelic Pathogenic Variants in PIGM

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective PIGM encodes a critical enzyme in the glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)‐anchor biosynthesis pathway. While promoter‐region mutations in PIGM have been associated with a relatively mild phenotype characterized by portal vein thrombosis and absence seizures, recent evidence suggests that coding‐region mutations result in a more severe

Understanding the Influence of the Electrode Material on Microbial Fuel Cell Performance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this thesis, I deploy sets of electrodes into microbial fuel cells (MFC), characterize their performance, and evaluate the influence of both platinum catalysts and carbon-based electrodes on current production.

Clinical Practice Guideline for Evaluation and Management of Peripheral Nervous System Manifestations in Sjögren's Disease

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Sjögren's disease is an autoimmune disorder that can impact multiple organ systems, including the peripheral nervous system (PNS). PNS manifestations, which can exist concurrently, include mononeuropathies, polyneuropathies, and autonomic nervous system neuropathies.

The change of bacterial community structure helped Salvia miltiorrhiza alleviate the pressure of drought stress

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
IntroductionDrought stress poses a significant threat to plant growth and development, thereby adversely impacting agricultural productivity and ecosystem stability. In recent years, increasing attention has been given to plant–microorganism interactions

Development of Microbial Inoculants and the Impact of Soil Application on Rice Seedlings Growth [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural and Biological Sciences, 2009
Problem statement: The present study was undertaken to assess the Empty Fruit Bunches (EFB) as carrier of Biofertilizer and microbial inoculants interaction. A study in Malaysia had shown a strain of Trichoderma viride and Bacillus megaterium were isolated from the soil. Questions were raised whether the tow inoculants compatible to be mixed in

Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.

Biogeochemical processes and microbial diversity of the Gullfaks and Tommeliten methane seeps (Northern North Sea). [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Fluid flow related seafloor structures and gas seeps were detected in the North Sea in the 1970s and 1980s by acoustic sub-bottom profiling and oil rig surveys.
