Schaalia (Formerly Actinomyces) turicensis is a single-cell prokaryotic microorganism and a common component of the normal human oral flora. If it enters other parts and causes infection, it may lead to actinomycosis. We present the case of a 74-year-old

Developmental and Epileptic Encephalopathy due to Biallelic Pathogenic Variants in PIGM
ABSTRACT Objective PIGM encodes a critical enzyme in the glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)‐anchor biosynthesis pathway. While promoter‐region mutations in PIGM have been associated with a relatively mild phenotype characterized by portal vein thrombosis and absence seizures, recent evidence suggests that coding‐region mutations result in a more severe

Temporal and Spatial Impact of Human Cadaver Decomposition on Soil Bacterial and Arthropod Community Structure and Function [PDF]
As vertebrate carrion decomposes, there is a release of nutrient-rich fluids into theunderlying soil, which can impact associated biological community structure andfunction. How these changes alter soil biogeochemical cycles is relatively unknown and may

Diversity across Seasons of Culturable Pseudomonas from a Desiccation Lagoon in Cuatro Cienegas, Mexico. [PDF]
Cuatro Cienegas basin (CCB) is a biodiversity reservoir within the Chihuahuan desert that includes several water systems subject to marked seasonality. While several studies have focused on biodiversity inventories, this is the first study that describes

Identification of genes encoding microbial glucuronoyl esterases
One type of covalent linkages connecting lignin and hemicellulose in plant cell walls is the ester linkage between 4‐O‐methyl‐d‐glucuronic acid of glucuronoxylan and lignin alcohols. An enzyme that could hydrolyze such linkages, named glucuronoyl esterase, occurs in the cellulolytic system of the wood‐rotting fungus Schizophyllum commune.

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting
